I just saw it because of the Oscar buzz and came out delighted. Weaver and Lawrence were terrific, weren't they? I've been toying with seeing Gangster Squad and you may have convinced me to go. By all means, see Lincoln. I'm an Abe-o-phile who loved Team of Rivals and admit I couldn't see DDL in the part but oh, he nailed it. He gets lost in the role, and I mean that in the best way. Bruce McGill and Tommy Lee Jones are terrific, too.The Gal Herselfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02566779726191649848noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7071830940339914895.post-67497863394028729492013-01-23T06:57:48.912-08:002013-01-23T06:57:48.912-08:00We've got two of those 10-12 theatre multiplex...We've got two of those 10-12 theatre multiplexes within about 6 miles of each other, and they show the exact same movies at the exact same time and will put the more popular ones in 3-4 theaters, limiting the number of films they actually show. If we want to see anything less blockbuster-ish or independent we go closer to Hollywood.Pumpkin Delight (Kimberly)https://www.blogger.com/profile/15754292671421221960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7071830940339914895.post-46347328802704933622013-01-22T22:41:45.115-08:002013-01-22T22:41:45.115-08:00I don't know the stats for going here. A few friends get copies of the nominated films being members of SAG so maybe I'll go that route.
The review was very well written. No one can really hold a candle to his performance of Valjean, but if you can get past that Jackman is really very good.
As for the excessive movie going, school breaks make that possible. When I'm working it's more like once every other month. But it's probably more of a big deal here than there?Pumpkin Delight (Kimberly)https://www.blogger.com/profile/15754292671421221960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7071830940339914895.post-61085965568529916202013-01-21T23:04:14.635-08:002013-01-21T23:04:14.635-08:00Hard to think Affleck as a director. I was never a...Hard to think Affleck as a director. I was never all that about his acting. He always struck me he performed much the same function for you gals that Pam Anderson did for us guys.
It is amazing for me you've seen that many films. Here the average film-goer is a teen girl. And a teen girl from an affluent home too. Going to a film isn't a cheap night out, it would match a medium range restaurant in cost. Something I think makes one less likely to take a punt so you wait til you get a number of excellent reviews.
I'll probably go to see Lincoln and Les Misérables, mostly because of the Irish connections. Colm Wilkinson is the bishop, he did Jean in the original London&New York productions in the 80's. Plus he said on radio here he didn't know who Hathaway was since he didn't watch films(chuckle). Now there a good little actor that sure didn't indicate she had depths in her with all her dulce pre-teen princess crap she did earlier. Nor was she like J Love-Hewitt, dammed, by a continuous reference to very vague looks of Hepburm.
As to the last one about Bin Laden. I find the whole thing utterly distasteful. And that video of Obama watching his death one of the low points of the last 50 years. It's one thing for the potus to see the results of his order, another entirely to see propaganda footage of his viewing the results.
