A Nap

I don’t nap.  I have never been much of a napper.  This afternoon I got home from work about 5 with a load of stuff to do.  After washing up, changing, and basically de-teachering, I stupidly crawled into bed for just a minute…those are famous last words I think.  Just a minute turned into an hour and a half, and when I woke up at 6:30 I was useless.  With eyes half closed I shuffled through the house halfheartedly completing some chores.  I’ve never understood the appeal to naps.  They don’t invigorate me at all.  Instead they turn me into a zombie until bedtime when, miraculously, I’m wide awake again.  I just don’t get naps.

  1. It sound like you are getting a dip in your glucose. Not sugar generally for it's really only glucose you need for energy. Or. Did you eat anything new or unusual that might cause a allergic reaction. Then of course it might be something as simple as hydration.
If I was you I'd be careful all the same. Without causing any alarm it could also be a dip in your insulin. Like with the kids, you need to keep an eye on that triangle of hydration, sugar, energy.

    1. I try to be pretty careful through the day and not get too hungry by snacking on nuts or a protein bar or pb/apples, etc. This year's group of kids is wearing me out. To be honest, I blame them for falling asleep at 5:00 in the evening. It's always a hard job these first few months, but this year I'm pulling my hair out.

    2. Ah well, you know yourself better than I do, just to be aware you can get some of those glucose sweets that diabetics take. Especially if you awake feeling quite ratty and more exhausted. It tends to mean you aren't sleeping from tiredness but from an absence of fuel.

On the substantive point of not liking naps. Some seem require training through exercise to appreciate the energy giving loveliness of the 1/2 hour or deep restful sleep. :-)

    3. I've mastered the deep, restful sleep. But so far any nap I've accidentally taken has later messed with that nighttime sleep. I guess I haven't trained enough for that one yet. :)
I did however wake with a bad sinus headache this morning due to allergies. That may have something to do with the one-off nap Monday night.

    4. Re-reading my comment I kinda wish I went with a jokey response. Too late now. :-)

    5. Other than maybe a few inappropriate events, it's never too late for a joke. :)

  2. I hate when that happens. Sometimes the nap is better quality sleep than my actual nighttime sleeping.

    1. I know a few people who say that very same thing. Nighttime sleeping might be my favorite thing to do. :)

  3. I love to nap, but I have to do less than 1/2 hour, power nap, or sleep half the day. I know the grogginess happens as a result of waking up in the middle of rem sleep.

    1. 1/2 hour? What's the point of that? That's like waking up a 1/2 hour before the alarm goes off and then falling back to sleep. I'm always more tired after that extra 1/2 hour than if I had just gotten up to begin with.

    1. Me neither. I can't ever stop long enough to do so, except of course, last night. :)
