It’s hard to believe that August has arrived and summer break is just about over. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed being on vacation this summer, spending an awful lot of time sleeping just playing in the art room.
Here is this month’s calendar for The Kathryn Wheel Calendar Challenge. I had a hard time photographing it so the background showed up. It looks kind of plain in the photo.

I finished the book I had been working in so created a couple of new ones. I learned the binding stitches (double x and diamond x) from Mary Ann at Dispatch From LA. 
The back-to-school count down begins today. Happy August!

I REEEEEALLY like the colours here. How did you get the sharp divisions. Did you mask with a latex/PVA. Either way I'm impressed, but if you've freehanded it, that 3rd one primarily, that's really good.

DeleteI didn't tape anything, however I never think my lines are very good with acrylic, so thank you.
Oh, have you never used the latex. It's excellent, you just pick/roll it off. It's really useful with acrylic for you can put it over existing paint once it's dry.
DeleteBtw, how are you getting on, keeping the paint flowing in the dry heat of SoCal.
We're going to have a lovely one today. Been v-wet this past week or so. Odd rain though, more like what you write about where the stuff vomits from the sky. An inch or more in an hour.
I've used masking fluid with watercolor, but I never even thought of using it with acrylic. I wonder if it's the same stuff.
DeleteThe paint doesn't flow great here. I don't like using the extender mediums because I find that they gave the paint a weird consistency - kind of sticky. The nice thing about it is when working in layers, there's not a whole lot of waiting around for the paint to dry time.
Your heatwave is over then? Did you dry up enough that the heavy rains are causing any flooding? Those kinds of rains always cause flooding here because the ground is so dry.
It has been beautiful here the last couple of days...mid 80s and sunny clear skies. And the best part is at night it's cooled down allowing the windows to open and to bring in some fresh air.
I remember when DD1 was in 4th grade, they all made books. We mothers did the binding and they turned out really well. I wish I could remember how it was done.

ReplyDeleteI've been reading down your blog and loved the one about the humping dinos. It's a bit sad they couldn't have saved ONE of the lesser offensive murals and let the kids paint over it with different colored paint, but keeping the same design. I fear some of your school's history has been lost.
Oh thank you. I'm afraid it's lost too. Things will still go on, but it is a bit sad.
