In celebration of Valentine's Day, this week's Saturday 9 theme is the theme song from Love Story.
1) The very popular tagline for this movie is, "Love means
never having to say you're sorry." Here's your chance to rewrite it. "Love means...giving someone the power
to break your heart but trusting them not to."
2)
The movie was famous for a montage of the lovers frolicking in the snow. Do you
enjoy sledding, skating, skiing, snowball fights, snowmen, etc.? Or do you just
want spring to hurry up and get here?
I’d just like it not to be 90 FREAKING
degrees in February!!!
3) In the movie, Oliver
asks his father for $5,000. The money is required for wife Jenny's hospital
treatment, but Oliver is too proud to tell his father why he needs it. Adjusted
for inflation, $5,000 in 1970 is $30,000 today. How much would you be willing
to lend a friend or family member without knowing the reason? Hmmm,
that’s a tricky one and would probably depend on the friend and the amount.
4) In
the movie, Jenny is the daughter of a baker who owns a little shop in Cranston,
Rhode Island. Think of the last baked goods you consumed. Were they home made?
Did you buy them from a bakery, the grocery store, or a coffee shop, like
Starbucks? I had a bagel from a bagel shop this morning.
5) In
1970, when the movie was first released, California's First Lady Nancy Reagan
said she liked it but was upset to hear Ali MacGraw's character swear. What's
the curse word you use most often? Being
around kids everyday, my vocabulary is pretty clean as I don’t want to slip and
accidentally say anything inappropriate, but when angry my go-to is F***ing
A**hole.
6)
Now 75, Ali MacGraw has let her famous hair go gray. She says she's glad to
"look like a grown up." Do you feel your age? Or older or younger
than your years? Definitely younger, most
of the time. Other times,
especially at the beginning of the school year I feel like I’m a hundred years
old.
7)
MacGraw and her Love Story co-star Ryan O'Neal are currently on tour in
the play, Love Letters, and they're drawing big crowds of fans who
remember them in their famous film. Tell us of another movie couple you felt
had romantic chemistry. I don't tend watch (or like) the sappy romantic films, so I don't know any of the traditional movie couples, but I do like Harry and
Sally in Harry Met Sally.
8)
Red is the signature color of Valentine's Day. Are you wearing red right now? No, but I’m in a room with a red wall.
9) Because Valentine's Day is such a big day for chocolate ... would you prefer a large, solid milk chocolate heart or a small box of four assorted chocolates? Neither sound particularly good to me. Valentine’s candy isn’t my thing, but we are just a week or two away from Reese’s PB Eggs.

"When Harry Met Sally" is a lovely little movie, isn't it? It was written by my favorite author, Nora Ephron. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteYes, I spent a lot of time watching that one years ago. I may still know all the lines by memory. :)
DeleteI'm going to preface this with saying I'm male and St V's day was more utilitarian that anything.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth of those involved with that film tiz Ryan O'Neal I think is the real romantic. He lived with Farrah Fawcett from the 70s til she died. But in a town where marriages don't last the 3 years, he stuck with her through the three years of her cancer.
And also for what it's worth, but I find that darn tune incredibly depressing.
I've never seen the movie. I don't think I've seen one of O'Neal's movies, actually. He's not known for being faithful during most of their time together, but it does sound like he was supportive during the end for her. His own story/family is quite tragic. For him, fame wasn't all it's cracked up to be.
DeleteI just got home from visiting with friends, one who has a big golden retriever that wanted to sit in my lap most of the night. Rigby is not happy with me at all. Her nose has been attached to me since I've been home, wondering who I've been with. :)
I had to clean up my vocabulary for the very same reason.
ReplyDeleteYes! The parents can swear left and right, but if a teacher ever let one slip we'd be in so much trouble!!!
DeleteI prefer the Cadbury eggs myself, and they're already out here. I'm pretty sure this part of Virginia lives off of candy and beer.
ReplyDeleteThey could be out now, but I try and stay away. Candy and beer sound like an excellent diet! :)
DeleteI love hitting the bagel shop when the bagels just come out of the oven. I can eat a dozen of those warm bagels.
ReplyDeleteYes, they're dangerously good. But I'd much prefer that kind of baked good than a sweet one.
DeleteBagels were like a food group, once upon a time. Loved your answers! I can't wait for this year to be over if it's going to be so freaking hot in Calie. Gawd!
ReplyDeleteI know, right! We are in for another LONG hot year if it's already starting. I don't know how much longer I can survive all the hot weather. We keep getting more a more days each year. It's depressing.
DeleteI remember going to see that movie in the theatre and I wasn't at an age to appreciate it, then again...I've never been a romantic.
ReplyDeleteI'm not wearing red, but I do have on socks with different colored hearts on them (coincidence rather than planning).
I had a chocolate chip muffin for breakfast. Homemade, of course. :) I haven't had a bagel in years! There use to be a bagel bakery in Little Rock that I loved to visit when I was there. I'd bring home a sack full of all kinds! It closed and the ones I could get around here just didn't measure up.
That's the thing about bagels. They can be really good or just meh. After living on the East Coast, where there are tons of good bagel shops, coming back home to a bagel chain doesn't do them justice. There is a nearby shop that has decent ones. They are inconsistent, which bothers me a little, but they'll do when in the mood for a bagel. :)
DeleteOh you had to mention "Reese’s PB Eggs" now I going to be thing about them all day... Hmmm I wonder if I can have just one.
