A Chuckle

Earlier this week, I was out of the classroom for the day due to a meeting at the district office.  The meeting finished at 3:15, and since I wasn't at school with a pile of work to do, I decided to run some errands that I usually take care of on the weekend - one of those being the car wash.
After leaving my car with the attendant and then checking in, I popped into the restroom.  When I finished up in there I approached the sink to wash my hands.  There was a mirror above the sink that looked quite high.  After washing my hands, I looked up into the mirror as one does, and all I could see was the part in my hair at the top of my head.  At 5' 4", I'm not the tallest of girls, but not the shortest either.  Clearly, a very tall person (I'm assuming a man), put that mirror up and could see themselves in it just fine.  It makes me laugh that it has just remained that way.

  1. That does seem odd! Even at a few inches taller it might only hit around one's nose... Not a place for reapplying lipstick, I guess! ;)

    1. Ha ha! No, not good for much except making sure the part in my hair was straight. On the other hand, it is a car wash so I'm sure they don't really care all that much.

  2. Hmm. I just checked the mirror I put up and the top is at 66", this for my six foot. This is slightly low for me. But it still wouldn't bring in your chin.
But on that topic. Here in Tipperary I'm about average height for a man, but in Galway I'm a few inches taller.
So I'd have thought LA would be taller than the average bear on the whole.

    1. I know as a "rule" in decorating you are supposed to put up pictures or mirrors so your eye line comes to about the middle of it. But I always tend to go a bit higher because I feel like they are too short if I do that. On the other hand, I've never not been able to see myself in a mirror in a public restroom before which is why it struck me as funny. It wasn't a detail the car wash cared much about. Ha!

  3. Here they are usually polished stainless steel with a film of 'mirror' stuck to it. And tend to stretch from the top of the sink up, and usually as wide as the sink.
I tend to put in a mirror to shave or buzz my hair so they need to be a bit lower.

    1. Yes, that's how it mostly is here too. I find that the mirrors hanging over the sink need to be a bit lower anyhow because if you need to get close to it to see, you have to bend over the sink. I have a mirrored closet door, and I find myself over there a lot because I can get right up to it to see for more precision work like eyelashes and eyebrows since I can't wear my glasses while doing that. (If I could insert an emoji here it would be the laughing one.)

    2. Usually wardrobe mirrors are bevelled to make you look a thinner. So you have to get right up close to see details in true.
The shaving mirror I have is on an extension but also has a magnifying one on the back. Sometimes you can really have a Yikes Moment if you don't realise the x1.5 is turned to you.

    3. Oh yes, those are the worst! It’s like having your phone camera flip around to selfie mode. Gah!

  4. Hah, I generally have the opposite problem. At 6'2", I can list a long line of mirrors where I can't even see any of my head without bending deeply at the knees. On a side but related note, my wife is 5'0" so we struggle when it comes to picking the correct height to hang things in our house.

    1. Y'all are almost as bad as my aunt and uncle were. I think she was 4'10" and he was 6'4". Folks called them "Mutt & Jeff" when they were young!

    2. Ha ha! That must be a challenge. The “happy medium” between the two really doesn’t work for either of you, does it. But as a fellow short person, bending at the knees to see yourself is easier than jumping in the air! ;)
