The craziness going on in Wisconsin has been on my mind a lot lately. I do have some of my own issues with the teachers’ union (which I will post about at a later time), but what really frustrates me are the nasty things that are being said about teachers as a group as this whole thing goes down. I haven’t had the energy to coherently form my thoughts on this issue so instead I’m going to leave it to my favorite “newsman” Jon Stewart to do it for me…

I'm a non-union reacher with two retired teacher parents. All of the "news" on this topic is driving me bonkers.
ReplyDeleteIf "they" could only watch what we do for one week, they'd be BEGGING to pay us more... Okay, they'd probably still not understand.
I love teachers. Some of them do act like spoiled brats though. Just like SOME business men act like spoiled brats. SOME TV newspeople act like spoiled brats. SOME bloggers act like spoiled brats.
ReplyDeleteI try to not get too mad. Most union teachers have it far better than non union teachers. We should all be thankful for our job and our pay.
We have all been lumped together, that is no lie. I realize there are some crap teachers out there, but there are more great than not.
ReplyDeleteI love how parents think the school district should raise their kids. I'm certain that's where the problems begin.
ReplyDeleteI really think that sometimes the union gets in the way of teachers doing the job they love. I did my student teaching in a union state and was amazed at all the conditions the teachers (union) had for themselves. I then worked in a non-union state and the teachers all seemed so much happier and their relationship with their principal was so awesome. I don't know if it was related or just random,
ReplyDeleteHe is not always my favorite but that was really funny.
ReplyDeleteMy friend is a school union rep and I think she is getting ulcers from it. :(
I say that we start blaming teachers for illegal immigration.
