Mats

Being a frequent Pinterest visitor I am constantly reminded that there are so many things to do (cooking, crafting, working out, shopping, DIY remodeling my home, etc) and such little time and money to do them.  So when I do manage to successfully pull off a Pinterest idea I'm really quite pleased with myself.  And if it's cute?  Well my pride is just endless.
I accomplished one such project last week.  Probably a year or so ago I pinned an idea for covering the shelves of the refrigerator with plastic wrap to help keep them clean and, when needed, make clean up easy.  I had since cleaned out my refrigerator on some school break and forgot about the idea.  Well, this summer cleaning the fridge was on my to do list again.  It's really a simple job because the shelves are plastic and easy to wipe down.  The problem is the shelves are large and hard to manage in a sink that is half the size.  While cleaning them this go round, I remembered that shelf covering idea.  The plastic wrap wasn't going to work for my shelves, but I searched around for some other ideas and came up with this...
Plastic placemats from Target!
It was super easy to cut them down to fit on the main shelves and drawers.
The door shelves were a little trickier to size.  They're not perfect, but it's hardly noticeable.

I got them down within a few days after cleaning the fridge - before any leaks, spills, or drips.  Now, the next time I clean, it'll take seconds to pull the mats out, wash them in the sink (or in the dishwasher if I'm feeling especially lazy), and pop them back in to continue their job.  And every time I open the fridge I'm delighted to see them.  A few times I've even opened it just to look at them.  Yay!

  1. They look really lovely. Darn good idea. Is it a smaller/narrower fridge that the usual. Perhaps not now I look at the door shelf and all the jars. Six would fill my door shelves, but only one row side by side.
I've discovered the anti bacterial sprays you have for countertops are excellent for mopping up dribbles and spills that've gone a bit hard.
    That hot pink makes it.

    1. It' a fairly regular sized fridge. It is a side by side so the shelving in the fridge is narrower but goes from top to the bottom. Yes the door shelves are wide. I think maybe sized for like gallon-sized milk. I have to be careful what I put in there that it doesn't slide around and topple out over the top.
      Maybe the mats will help.
I wasn't sure I liked them when I first bought them, but my options were limited. They've grown on me though; neutral enough but still fun...I think it IS the pink that does that. :)

  2. Now that is a fantastic idea. And such a cute place mat and the grid would make it so much easier to cut a straight line. Very clever.

    1. Yes, I was feeling very clever after it was completed. :) And it only took about an hour to get them measured and cut down. An easy peasy project for sure!

  6. I'd never really looked at pintrest before. Jeep-pers-creepers I'll not be visiting again any time soon. I'd a vague impression it was for craft. But wowza, I don't think I've been a place quite as pink.

    1. Ha ha ha ha! There have been a few instances where it's been useful and I've gotten something out of it, but it is the BIGGEST time sucker ever. I've found a ton of school stuff/ideas on it and I like it for recipes. But I pin stuff that I will never in my wildest dreams make or try or do, but it's all really pretty. :)
