Wasting Time With a Saturday 9!

It's supposed to be 104+ over the next few days which is making it very hard to motivate this Saturday morning.
This week's Saturday 9 song inspiration is Train's Soul Sister.

1) The video was shot on a street corner in Echo Park in central Los Angeles. If you saw a film crew making a video in your neighborhood, would you stop to watch? Or would you just keep walking? Living in the Valley, just outside of LA, someone is filming something ALL THE TIME.  It's not really a novel thing here.  In fact, for the last two weeks the liquor/convenience store across the street from my school has been closed and restyled for filming.  It's kind of a pain with traffic and people milling around.  So to answer that question...unless George Clooney is there, I keep walking.
2) The singer says he remembers his girl in every dream he dreams. Do you remember if you dreamed last night?  I don't remember most of what I dream...if I dream.  Every so often I'll have some wacky dream, and I remember that.  But most of the time, I don't dream.
3) The band Train is from San Francisco. Have you ever visited The City by the Bay? I love visiting SF.  In fact, I'd like to be there now as they rarely get as hot as we do down here.
4) Lead singer Pat Monahan got his start in a Led Zeppelin cover band. Can you name a Led Zeppelin song?  Stairway to Heaven, Fool in the Rain, When the Levee Breaks, Ramble On are some of my faves.
5) In doing research for this week's Saturday 9, Crazy Sam discovered a publication called Trains, The Magazine of Railroading. What's the last magazine you flipped through? I subscribe to Vanity Fair, but tend to read it on my iPad when I travel.  They still send me an actual magazine, but only sometimes do I flip through it.
6) Do you consider yourself a leader or a follower?  It depends on the situation.  In my job, I tend to be a leader.  In my personal life it's a mixed bag.  The important stuff I feel the need to be in control.  The small things, not so much.  I'd actually rather be a follower for that stuff.
7) Scholars tell us that "To be or not to be" is Shakespeare's most quoted line. Give us another one.  "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

8) How do you listen to music on the go? Car radio? CD changer? iPod/mp3 player? Your phone? My car is like a 100 years old so I don't have anything fancy like blue tooth or usb drives.  I was in a rental car a couple of weekends ago and I was shocked at all the electronic options available.  I did have a new car stereo installed about 7 years ago that lets me attach my iPod (from inside the glove box).  That's what I listen to in the car.  If I'm traveling but not in the car I have music on my iPhone.
9) Are you a convincing liar?  No, I'm not.  (Did I convince you?)  I can white lie to people I don't care about pretty well.  Otherwise, I'm not terribly convincing as I wear it all over my face.  Although, I will admit texting makes those white lies easier.

Happy Saturday!  It's time to brave the heat...wish me luck!

    1. Yah, that. :) But he's off the market now, so I lost my chance, darn it!

  2. I think you win for knowing the most Zepplin songs.

    1. I have older cousins who were into their music when I was a kid. I kind of grew up to it.

  3. That song was recorded not far from where I lived in London. But I actually hadn't known that until I looked it up just now. I didn't know the song, leastwise I'd always heard it as 'So, Sister' ergo the confusion.
Frankly though it's one of those toe tapping ones like And yes it kinda puts a smile on the face but so does sugar floss, but it would drive ya nuts if you heard it everyday.

    The holy grail.
Arthur "The Lady of the Lake, [angels start singing] her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. [singing stops] That is why I am your king! "
Dennis "Listen, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony".

    ARTHUR: Be quiet!
DENNIS: Well you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you!
    ARTHUR: Shut up!
DENNIS: I mean, if I went around saying, "I was an emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me" they'd put me away!

    1. Yes on the song. It was SO overplayed that it irritates me now. :) I really liked their first album, but I wouldn't know anything besides this song since.
Ha Ha Ha! When I first read this I thought you meant the "Holy Grail" of a Shakespeare quotes, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what he wrote that sounded so informal. :) MONTY PYTHON!!! Ya know, I saw this movie for the first time in college and didn't much care for it. But it just took me awhile to get past the silliness of it to pick up on the humor in the writing. Good stuff.
      "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!"

    2. ME too. I saw it and thought WTF is all the fuss about. It just seemed so pointless and without humour.

  4. My sister is in Orange County and she was saying something about the heat. All I know is that we are having a beautiful fall-like day. Even thought it is still summer...

    1. Once September hits everywhere else fall has arrived. We don't even get summer here now until Sept. It was very pleasant in July and August. I thought we might actually get out of this summer unscathed by the sweltering heat. Not a chance though!

    1. I can't either. Even though it happens every. single. year.

  6. Today I actually pulled out my fleece for the first time since before baseball season started. Hope you're enduring the heat well. And congratulations! You named the most Zeppelin songs.

    1. Oh, now you're just rubbing it in. I love my fleece and I think I got to put it on once in all of our winter this year. Too hot!

  7. We're getting frost warnings here in MN already! We need some more fall weather filled with days in the 50's and 60's. I never thought about filming being an every day thing there. Makes sense. I suppose it could get a little irritating after a while.

    1. That just makes me want to move somewhere else! It was 110 in the shade today. I never left the house. :(

  8. It is hot here too....but not as hot as down there. It was 90 when we had a 49er Football Camp on Friday....but it was still better than last year when the wind blew so hard we had to have adults hold up all the equipment.

I thought of you when my classroom kept getting too warm. The thermostat read 68.5 but I was really warm. I brought in my own thermometer and it read 76! So the maintenance man came in with his thermometer to calibrate the thermostat and YES!! apparently the thermostat had not been calibrated correctly. Once he set the thermostat my room is now the correct temperature. I 'll bet that is what is wrong with yours!
    Have a great new week!

    1. 90s is what it's been all summer thus far...90s is what I called pleasant for summer.
You have thermostats?!?! They have taken all control away from us in our district. We aren't able to even see what they keep it at. I have a fan in my room with a thermometer on it. It says 74...on a good day. 68.5?!?!? In my dreams!!! And every time they come into our room with the thermometer gun they say, "Nope, it's fine!". The problem is, the person who decides the room temp sits at a desk in an office at that temp (minus the 25-30 hot/sweaty kids) and is fine. I went and did an observation at a school across town this past week in a different district and felt so unappreciated when I saw that they have control of their room temp. Maybe 8 miles away and they respect their teachers enough to allow them to control the temps in their room. (sigh)

  9. I lived in LA most of my life, so I know what you mean about filming except that I would stop for Johnny Depp. I love your honesty about telling white lies. :-D
