Saturday 9

This week's Saturday 9 song is The Beatles "Fool on the Hill".
1) Friday was April Fool's Day. Did you pull any pranks? Did anyone put anything over on you?  No.  I was hoping for this though.   I'm still holding out hope that it's all a prank.
2) The practice of playing tricks on one another on April 1 dates back at least to the 14th century and Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales includes a mention of it. Geoffrey Chaucer has been called England's greatest poet. Quote a bit of poetry for us. (It doesn't have to be English, or great.)
The final stanza of "Litany" by Billy Collins.
I am also the moon in the trees
and the blind woman's tea cup.
But don't worry, I'm not the bread and the knife.
You are still the bread and the knife.
You will always be the bread and the knife,
not to mention the crystal goblet and--somehow--the wine.

3) Beatle Paul is a huge Elvis fan and is happy to own the bass that was played on Elvis' 1954 recording of "That's All Right, Mama." Tell us about one of your prized possessions.  There are few things I own of sentimental value, but nothing prized as far as being famous or worth a lot.

4) In contrast to his easygoing persona, Sir Paul has been described by former band mate Ringo Starr as strong willed and "determined to get his own way." Do you consider yourself strong willed and determined? Or are you more easy going?  Ha!  I wish I were more easy going, but instead I am strong willed and determined (that's a nice way of putting it).
5) The Beatles once bought a Greek island, planning to live and record there, but sold it after a few months because it started to seem like a bad, expensive idea. Tell us about a purchase that gave you buyer's remorse.  I tend to overthink every large purchase to the point that there isn't any buyers remorse on those types of things.  Any buyers remorse I've had is usually over an item of clothing or shoes.  Those items are easily given to Goodwill however.

6) Legend has it that the Beatles officially broke up in Disney World. John Lennon was staying at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort when he received and signed the court papers that dissolved the group. Have you ever conducted business while on vacation?  No way!  But of course any trips I take are when schools are on break so that makes it a bit easier.

7) George Harrison loved puttering around in the garden and dedicated his autobiography to "gardeners everywhere." Do you have a green thumb?  Nope!

8) Ringo regrets not having saved more Beatles memorabilia, which he realizes now would be worth a fortune. Are you a pack rat? Yes and no.  I tend to acquire things but when things get too cluttered I get rid of them en masse.  Usually spring break is when I do my spring cleaning.  So far I have packed up 6 large garbage bags of stuff to be given away.

9) Random question: Which do you prefer, Girl Scout cookies or Boy Scout popcorn?  Neither really. I don't find Girl Scout cookies all that exciting and didn't even know the Boy Scouts sold popcorn.

  1. #9 -- I don't like the Boy Scout popcorn, but I'm helpless when confronted by those polite little men in their crisp uniforms.

Love those illustrations. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Anytime I see the Boy/Girl Scouts selling things outside a store I'm going in I silently groan to myself. I feel like an utter witch when I say "no thank you", but I really don't care to be ambushed have it either.

  2. It seems like so far no one here has a green thumb.

  4. I tend to say no to anybody selling anything out of stores. I am a curmudgeon like that.

  5. About Trump, we can only hope. Down in flames would be nice.
I'm giving away machine knitting yarn.
I inherited a green thumb dna. But, no kidding, it can be learned, too. ;o)

    1. Yes, I imagine it can. My desire to have pretty flowers is overrun by my lack of time to have them.

  6. John Lennon bought an island off the coast of Mayo in Clew Bay. He and Yoko spent a night there in total. Then they allowed it to become a Hippy Commune. I don't know how to get over the culture shock, perhaps a something like Austin in the middle of Texas. I didn't know about the Greek one, and I'm a bit surprised for the Junta were ruling Greece then.

    1. Buying an island? It's beyond my comprehension. And to do so and then not go? I guess when you can buy anything you could possibly want the the novelty wears off faster than the rest of us.

    2. It wasn't a big one and I'd say your parents house in the 60s would've been more expensive. It was only a few thousand pounds then.

  7. I've hated April Fool's Day my entire life. I've just never been into practical jokes of any kind.

    I definitely don't have a green thumb.

Once upon a time I would have said GS Cookies without hesitation, but then they took all the trans-fats out of them to make them healthier (isn't that an oxymoron? healthy GS cookies??) and they never had the same taste or texture. I gave up popcorn years ago because of dental work. :(

    1. I'm not much a practical joke fan either. An elaborate ruse on the other hand, I can appreciate. :)
I feel that way about the cookies as well. I remember when I was a GS I liked them. I feel like now they just don't taste the same. Whether that's because my tastes have changed or they have changed...but it all tastes a bit "fake" to me. I do like popcorn but haven't been a fan of the BS stance on various issues recently.

  8. I, on the other hand, love a good practical joke. But I am respectful of those who don't feel that way and would never play one on one of them (even though I think they're missing out!) As to your pack rat question -- I try really hard not to be but after 32 years of marriage and 3 children, I've acquired a bit of stuff. Wife and I are on a pretty good roll of cleaning out and get rid of stuff but it's a work in progress. She and I don't always agree on the definition of "crap." :-)

    1. Isn't that the truth! Someone's trash is someone else's treasure!
My family has always been into jokes and pulling a fast one on each other, but it's never been simple practical jokes but rather long drawn out plans that get you going for awhile. There's a lot of planning and cleverness that goes into that so I have to be respectful of it, even if it makes you feel like a FOOL! :)
