Well That Was Convoluted...But it Worked!

I spent most of this week relaxing outside with a book on my iPad mini.  While the iPad has a beautiful, clear screen most of the time, outside in the sun the glare is very bad which makes books quite difficult to read.  Some actual books were checked out of the library for this reason, but I'm in the middle of a book that I want to finish.  I searched solutions which had reminded me that I purchased an anti-glare screen protector a year or so ago after getting the new iPad.  I had one on my full-size to keep it scratch free, but it had a bit of a haze to it.  The new retina screen on the iPad mini is so vibrant, I never actually put the cover on not wanting to reduce the quality.  Since I plan on sitting outside reading for pretty much all of my summer break, I dug out the cover and prepared to install it.
These covers are notoriously difficult to put on.  With their clingy backing, it's so hard to get them straight before they stick.  Air bubbles are also frustrating, and it's quite difficult to get all of them out.  I didn't care too much, wanting to just stick it on and go outside for the summer.  But I was surprised when I pulled out the contents of the package.  There were two rubber band things, some sticker sheets, and stickers on the cover itself.  Puzzled, I was about the throw my hands up, as the written directions really made no sense.  Then, remembering I was on vacation and had the time, I went to the install instructions link on their website and found this video.
Holy cow!  I've never seen such a process for installing such a simple screen saver.  Wrap it in rubber bands, add these stickers, peel these pieces off, add these other stickers, etc.  WHAT?!?!  But I'll tell you something, it worked!  It was the easiest install of one of these screens I've ever done.  Other than watching the video, it took less time than it's ever taken to install pretty much anything on these devices.  I only installed it one time, not lifting and shifting and lifting and shifting over and over again.  There were some additional stickers and videos to deal with dust particles and air bubbles, but after a few wipes with the dust cloth over the top of the screen, the air bubbles dissipated.
This is not a product endorsement as I haven't even been outside with the iPad in the sun yet, but I'm so impressed with the concept behind the directions.  It's a lot of steps for a very simple idea, but it sure made a frustrating exercise way less frustrating.

  1. That idleness won't last. It won't be long before you decide reading is a dead loss when you can put the speaker on and listen to your book while you do a Tom Sawyer on the fence. Or decide you need a blue orange and red mosaic on your new patio. Nope, don't see it, if half what you've said on here is near true the doing nothing will have you more stressed than doing a full days work.

Those things drive me nutty. But that sequence looked like it would really work. I use my credit card to smooth out the bubbles.

Ohh, Applefangirl. It's been teaming it down here. Like the stuff you get. Drops the size of a finger segment and tons of it.

    1. Ha! To be honest, my skin doesn't allow me to be outside in the sun for more than 30 minutes (15 per side) anyhow. :) Today it's like 107 outside so I didn't even last that long.
The home projects would be endless if I hadn't spent all my money on the floors. So this summer I'm just sitting around looking at them. :) But you are right, my "doing nothing" isn't really nothing - because I can't do that. But no work, which is heavenly. This next week I work all week, but it's extra pay and NO KIDS, which still makes it seem like a vacation.
Ya know, I will ask you, I planted some geraniums in pots and my gardener set up a drip system for the pots. The plants had flowers on them when I planted about 2 weeks ago. The plant itself is still green, but the flowers have all shriveled up. Will more grow back? Do I need to cut off the dried up flowers? Geraniums seem to do well here with little maintenance, but I'm figuring my black thumb is at it again! Have I killed it?
Sooooooo, are you going to get something Apple-made? You must! But I will warn, you'll want more. :)

    2. Dead heading the geraniums is easy. You just run your thumb down the old flower spike between it and the bit it's growing out of, then close with the index finger and push gently down and away from the stem it's growing from. But a snips works fine too. look on YouTube there's certain to be something.:-)

  2. Isn't it great how many answers can be found at YouTube?! Or just google, in general.

Back when we still had our swimming pool (it's since been filled in and has tomatoes and other stuff growing in it), I always liked having some geraniums around. They're so pretty and handle the heat well. And even my brown thumb could keep them alive all summer.

    Apple. :)

    1. Yah, I was hoping the geraniums would be a no brainer, but I don't know...

    1. Oh, I was just being boastful. As I said above, I can't sit outside and read for very long and today it was 116!!!! But yes, teacher vacation is GOOD, especially without kids of my own to look after. :)
