A Getup

My mom is in town for a few days, and we went downtown this afternoon to have lunch.  We crawled back home on the freeway due to bumper-to-bumper traffic so decided to exit the freeway in Burbank to kill some time while the traffic subsided.  Burbank has a couple of fairly nice shopping areas including a Macy's.  Armed with coupons we went in looking at handbags.  I've been eyeing one in particular for a few months now, but being rather pricey I hadn't taken the plunge.  Mom's coupons would help, so I planned to visit the bag again and decide once and for all to spend the money or not.
After all the sitting in traffic, we had to make a pitstop to the restroom before shopping.  The Macy's restrooms, or lounges as they call them, are usually quite nice, but this one was kind of cruddy.  Overall, aesthetically it was old and worn, not what you would expect from a Macy's.  I'm not usually a restroom snob because when you've got to use one, it's hard to be all that picky.  However, there was something about this getup that had me wondering.
It would seem to me if a store is asking me to pay high prices on a handbag, they can afford to hang their toilet paper on something other than plastic bags.  I thought it might be a one-off in the stall I was in, but my mom and another lady both commented on their getup too.  This seems very un-Macy's like, however it gave me a good laugh.
And yes, I did get the bag.
 It smells so good!

  1. Hmm, when we see that here in Ireland or the UK we instantly bring all the vouchers and coupons back to the shop to redeem them for this usually means they are sweating assets and workers. Plus their share price is half what it was last year.
Of course it could also be a really shit management team in that store/shop too :-). Did you get the bag ?.

    1. Yes, I was thinking it was probably management. The one near me doesn't look like that. But, I'm sure online shopping, heck Amazon alone, cuts the profits of these stores. I'm to the point now that I'm not looking to shop (look around), I just want to find what I want and buy it. That's hard to do in stores and much easier online. I found this bag while walking through our Macy's a month or so ago, and then went online to see if I could find it cheaper but it was the same price everywhere. Macy's is the only non-discount shopping in Kona so my mom has one of the credit cards in order to get their coupons. She brought them with her. I did get the bag, and it was 25% off with the coupons...$50 off!

  2. Ha! It would have made me laugh, too! (and another example of just what we'll take photos of now!!) I'll have to share this with my son's GF. She use to be in retail management and I know she'll get a kick out of it.

Despite sticking with my Miche bag for so long, I still am tempted by cute handbags. You should have taken a photo of it to share, too - whether you bought it or not. :)

    1. Ha! In my defense I was finished using the facilities and had washed my hands before deciding to go back in and take the shot (standing, not sitting :).
I did get the bag and updated the post with photos. I love it! I love bags, but don't like changing them out so I use one for a bit but always have an extra 1-2 in the closet for when I get sick of it. I've been looking for a leather tote that was large enough for my planner and school work if I were to take home but also closed and had an outside pocket. This is a good work bag.
It is interesting that the store was in rough shape as that's not their image. They're not a Nordstroms or Bloomingdales as far as high end goes, but they are close. The store was pretty shoddy. It is a very busy store in a very busy area so it could just be that things get shoddy very quickly with all its use. And in that case, it was great problem solving! :) Most places just stick the rolls ON TOP of the holder, right?

    2. I sent it to her and she said should would have burst out laughing, too. Said they have a little key to unlock them and the manager must have lost it, therefore the clever solution. Always a danger of them falling in the pot or on the floor when just sitting there. (and wouldn't you hate the thought of picking it up not knowing it had rolled on the floor!?)

Cute purse! It's bigger than I like to carry, but it sounds like it fits your need perfectly. Don't you love having the inside organized like that? Inner pockets/compartments are a must for me.
Makes me want a new one!

    3. Oh, A KEY! I just assumed they were broken. That's really funny, and it makes some sense.
The previous bag I was using was quite a bit bigger (but I didn't care for it) and I had purchased the insert for that. It was still a bit too small for the previous bag. It fits fairly snug in this one, but I like that. Yes, they make organization so much easier, plus it's easy to change bags more often. I'm notorious for throwing all sorts of stuff inside and then it feels like I'm carrying a brick around. The organizer has limited that since everything else has its place.

    4. Although, thinking about the lost key, how did they get inside there to wrap the bag around on the inside without the key? Hmmmmmmm

    5. I kind of wondered that myself, unless they could somehow thread it up? Seems like a lot of trouble to go to.
I still wonder why ALL the stalls were that way, too! So ghetto for such a high-end store.

And I didn't realize you had an insert in the purse until you said that. Had to go back and enlarge all the pics for a better view! Still think it's so cute (and I can just smell the new leather!)

    6. It DOES seem ghetto. Not impressive in the least. And yes, it smells delish!

  3. Regardless of the restroom situation, good choice on the bag! My wife and daughter would definitely approve!

  4. The bag looks cute. Should be long enough to fit over the shoulder and be comfy enough to pass between boob and hip, sitting mostly in the groove of the waist. Guys find that length incredibly awkward because we haven't that groove and end up having it sit at the hip. Ready to flip out of the way. I know I do for I've become quite an expert on bags. I have a bag attached to me almost always 95% of the time with camera, lenses and bits and bobs. Anywoos, good toting.

Get a link like a split ring or a carabiner clip and a cute chain for your pocketbook and clip it to the front of the insert. Long enough you can pull it out and work with it. The opening looks big and whatever else falls out if it lolls to the side, that you don't want to lose.

On the doodads for the loo rolls. Normally, here, these are farmed out to outside contractors. Them and the blue bin in the women's.

    1. Yah, good point on the wide opening. There were a couple of really nice ones that I liked even better, but didn't have the snap close on the top. I know I'd be losing stuff all the time so didn't purchase. This one has two brass twist fastener type things that slide in the other side and then turn to keep things tightly closed. Whether I use them all the time still remains to be seen, especially when I get busy!
I've gotten to the point carrying all the camera stuff is getting less and less appealing. Of course, I'm lugging books and school things most of the time so I'm just tired of lugging by the time I get to using the camera.
