A Dream, A Chuckle

As I think I've mentioned before, I don't dream (or remember my dreams) very often.  However I woke from one on Saturday morning, my first day of spring break, that made me laugh.  I'm not sure of the context, which is usually the case when I dream, but for what seemed like several minutes I listened to someone say, "business" over and over and over again.  But rather than annunciate the three syllables in the word it was said emphasizing the many "s" sounds in the word.  It was more like, "bisssss nisssss, bisssss nisssss".  I remember thinking, "Why do they keep saying that?" feeling irritated.  Then I woke myself up, and it was only about 6:00 am.  That's when I remembered that my bedroom window was open, and I heard a bird whistling in the same two beats the "person" was saying "business" in my dream.  With eyes still closed, I got up, closed the window and fell back into bed.  I wasn't going to let this bird interrupt my sleep or invade my dreams that early on the first day of break.

  1. My younger brother says he's never had/remembered having a dream in his life. I on the other hand have them on a nightly basis. I've often wondered why that is between two people who are very genetically similar.

    1. It is weird that we all have varying levels of dreams. My most common dream is when I have been working right up until I go to bed. Usually if that happens, I will dream about working all night long - a most exhausting dream by the way. But I don't have "story" like dreams very often.

    2. I used to have the working dreams quite often. Now they are home project dreams. Some of my favorite dreams happen because I read before lights out and sometimes dream about reading the book to the end. I don't get those too often but when I do I really enjoy them!

    3. I ALSO read before bed each night, but don't usually dream about books. It really is amazing how different our brains really are. I wonder if it has anything to do with me falling asleep while reading, which I also do almost every night - no time to process maybe? Ha ha!

  2. That's funny. I dream frequently and vividly and love to try and reconstruct them when I wake.

I'm glad you were able to go back to sleep!

    1. Oh, yes, I'm a good sleeper! :) Going back to bed after waking up (and not having to get up) might be in my top five favorite things to do.
I find that if I tell someone about my dream shortly after waking up, I do better remembering it. If I wait at all, I find that the details disappear. This one didn't have a lot of details though.

  3. Dreams are odd. I rarely remember them but when I do it's usually after a swift nap, of having been awoken, like you in the very early morning.
They are fundamental to health I think. But waking during isn't good if it occurs everyday for it breaks the REM sleep. But equally the issue of bedwetting as a kid and apnea (now there's a word I've never written before) in adulthood can be worse.

The birds are loud this year for some reason. :-)

    1. Don't "they" say dreams are like a manifestation of what's going on in your life? So it would be good to have them. I think I heard somewhere that we all DO dream, we just don't all remember them.
I LOVE sleeping with the windows open when the days have been hot but the nights cool, and when I'm working it's ok because I get up before the birds do. But on break, that is not the case and often they wake me. You haven't heard loud birds though, until you been in Hawaii (or anywhere tropical I suspect). Holy cow! They are NOISY!

    2. Who has magnificent dreams is Jessica. Wow, all legs going, yipping and panting. Sometimes the paws opening and closing in unison. Just so she doesn't have a dream fight and grip me someplace in one of her dreams.

'They' say the dreams help to fix memory. making the connections in the brain to make the happening 'real'.
Is Hawaii tropical ?. Yes, I suppose it is. I had a look on the goo, it's south of the tropic of Cancer. You sorta think Balli Hai and Gauguin for the tropical, not fat ex-bikers with Magnum PI whiskers tootling about gated senior communities.
Still on the birds, I expect you'd get normalised to them.

    3. Oh I know! Aren't they cute when they dream. Rigby does these quiet "woofs" when she dreams. I wonder if they dream of us and the goings on of their days or if they have outrageous dreams that make no sense.

  4. Like Kelly, I am a vivid dreamer. Every night. A therapist would have a field day with them, too, I'm sure. For the most part, they're pleasant, but I'll also have the occasional nightmare.

As for the birds, I love them, but they can make a racket along about sunrise. It's one of the reasons we stopped sleeping with our windows open a long time ago.

  5. I don't dream much either.. and don't remember most even if I do.
Lucky you can just close the windows and make the bird go away.. I have two of those little 'bird' that wake us up by jumping into our bed, wedging their tiny little bodies between us, fidgeting and whispering and there goes the morning.. lol
