Just A Little Something

This time of year, we are inundated with advertisements for cars given as Christmas presents.  Not just any ole' cars either.  No, they are usually luxury cars like Mercedes, BMW, or Infinity.

I’m just curious, who here has ever received a new car as a Christmas gift?  With a big red bow on top?  I don’t know anyone who has, so I am interested if this is something that actually happens in real life or if it’s just a car companies’ way of making us feel bad for the gift cards, house wares, and other trinkets we buy for our loved ones this time of year.

I’m almost positive it’s the latter, but if you’ve ever received a new car for Christmas or Hanukkah, tell us about it.

  1. It is so funny that you said that! I saw a car commercial today and recalled my mom's rants about this very thing. She always thought that these commercials were ridiculous!

  2. I have never received a new car. And I don't know one person who has. Maybe if we were super rich. Or celebrities. I bet our Almost Friend has received a new car. : ) Or not. Gary needs a new car. I was thinking about getting him a used one as a gift. You know just paying the tags and taxes etc and then letting him pay the payments. Then I looked in my checkbook and decided it would be MUCH better to give him the coupon book of hug coupons I made him : ) I mean, that just says 'I love you' so much more than a car, doesn't it? Or not! Did your break start already? Nice! We go until Wednesday. We have a 2 hour delay this morning because of snow though!

  3. I got a new car one year for Christmas. My husband wrapped a gold key for me to open Christmas Day. The next day we went out and bought my new car. No bows.

    Merry Christmas!

  4. My friend who used to be the sales manager at an auto dealership told me that they keep giant bows in their storage room just in case. I'd love to have one to stick on my old Subaru to enhance my holiday driving experience. =)

  5. Damn. How did you figure out what I was getting you!?!?

I guess I'll have to return it now and get you something else.

  6. I never have, but this commercial always makes me feel that if someone really loved me, I would...

  7. The next time I buy a car, I'm going to have them put a bow on it so I can feel like I got it as a gift.

  8. I think if a family member went out and committed our bank account to a new car without consulting with me, I'd be furious, not pleased!

A $30,000 + surprise is not a good surprise, in my book!

  9. Six years ago we bought a new car on Christmas Eve, but it was noto intentional. Supposedly, we were just window shopping, but they wouldn't let us leave without a car.

  10. I get one every single Christmas.

It gets so old after the 15th year. I mean you wake up on Christmas morning and say "Oh gee. Another brand new Mercedes for Christmas."

I play with it for a week until I break it or it gets old and it just sits in the garage with all the others collecting cobwebs.

Every year I write to Santa and say "Dear Santa, Please do NOT bring me another brand new car this year. This year I want a something simple, like a brand new giraffe. Santa, I know that I always get a brand new giraffe for my brithday (not from you, as you never seem to remember my birthday), but this year I really want a giraffe for Christmas. Thanks. Love Hula Hank"

But this year, he still didn't listen and I got another brand new mercedes.

    Bastard.

  12. I put a gigantic red bow on my 8 year old Chrysler Sebring and hum that inane Lexus song just to irritate people. Every single Christmas. (Kidding.) :)
