It's a bad sign when, with only 7 days left until the end of the school year, you wake up on a Thursday thinking that it's Friday. I've been up all of an hour and forty minutes, and at least ten times a thought that it's Friday has crossed my mind. The first being when I smacked the alarm off this morning the motivating factor for getting out of bed was, "Yay! It's Friday." I even whispered it to myself. That was the worst one of all.
Time flies. It's already June for goodness sake! Why is it then that the last two weeks of a school year crawl by?!?! I'm almost certain these last few days will feel longer than my entire summer break.
It's that darn holiday you had a week or so ago. It has long been noted that bank/public holidays breakup the year and provide a productivity bounce in the weeks following and not because people are happy but because they've been bounced out of a pattern or groove. They are disorientated.
ReplyDeleteIt's like holidays in August, or for you any time during Summer. The reality is people may as well be on vacation as at work since the amount done is minimal and graphing down. So keeping them there results in less done.
And sick days don't count in this for some reason. But that could well be because the measurement is so minimal for one or two people. But personally I think it's due to sickness being different to a free day.
Yes, that probably has a lot to do with it. Since spring break, most of the weeks leading up to this one were only 4 days in the classroom weeks due to meetings. Then last week I was out for the holiday and then out sick on Friday. 3 days to 5 is a BIG difference. :)
DeleteI also think getting out of the regular routine makes the days go by slower. The last few weeks of the year are useless really. All of the regular pullout instructional programs stop which changes the classroom program. We have to start returning books and packing up the room and turning in paperwork. We're also putting on a play so the last few days have been spent practicing a lot. It's more like babysitting while trying to repack my room into boxes again. I'm not "on", the kids are out of the routine, and that's not a good combo.
Between the days off and end-of-the-year-itus it's moving at a snail's pace. It always does.
What I don't understand is where March April and 80% of May went. We're days away from the longest day !!!!!!!!!!!.
DeleteJust saw on BBC News, a person opened a defunct wearhouse and filled it with wall to wall TRAMPOLINES.
Right?!?! They go by so fast now that we're old. :)
DeleteWe have a few of those warehouse in town. Same idea, in an industrial area and you can go by the hour or rent out some space for a kid's day party. I think some of them even have exercise classes on them. It's probably a pretty low-overhead kind of business, but the insurance is probably an arm and a leg - here anyways with all the law suits. It might be a fun exercise class, but anytime I've ever been on a trampoline I got to laughing so hard my stomach hurt. I don't know how effective it would be if I just spent the whole time giggling. :)
It's always like that isn't it? The last little bit crawls by so slowly. BTW, took your advice and I've been having Put Pie retype pages from one of her books so she gets practice typing this summer. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh, well I don't know how thankful you should be. I think it's sad a little bit that 8 year olds are required to type full essays . I sat in on some of the pilot testing this year and saw two kids, good students, break down in tears. Their thoughts move much faster than their typing. It was so painful. At least exposing her to it early will make it less stressful, hopefully.
DeleteTGIF!!'
ReplyDeleteIt's almost worse when you wake up on a Saturday morning and start planning the school day in your head...13 more days here :)
Oh, there have been many a Saturday when I wake and sit straight up in a panic because it's light out and I think I've overslept for work. It sure is a relief when I realize it's Saturday, but by that time my heart is in my throat. :)
DeleteFive more here, and the last one is a half day. We've got our Jack and the Beanstalk play Mon/Tues and then various "killing time" activities for the rest of the week. Plus, I'm almost packed. I think I can, I think I can.
Ha, speak for yourself on the age thing.
ReplyDeleteOn the trampolines, it looked like an acre of floorspace was used. The kids were having a great time. So were the women, with their jiggly bits flattened with thick Lycra. But nary a fella is the place. Plonkers !. It looked like so much fun. And I dont doubt that there are different sessions for men if they have any.
Ha, yah that activity definitely calls for some "support". This reminded me...the friends who watch Rigby when I'm out of town have a trampoline in the backyard for the kids. When Rigby is there and the kids go on it, it's the best exercise for her too. She runs around the thing, barking, completely confused with all the bouncing. It's pretty funny. If they go on it early enough, she'll sleep the rest of the day worn out by all the unfulfilled chasing.
DeleteI was noticing that the places here have leagues for different games on the trampoline like dodgeball and basketball. Men are probably their demographic on those activities.
The Kings are tied 4-4 with NY going into a second sudden death overtime...nail biting!
