Weiner’s Weiner

450x394-alg_anthony-weiner-speaksWell, the truth finally came out (ha) today.  Anthony Weiner (Rep NY-D) did tweet a picture of his penis to some girl he “friended” on facebook.

If you haven’t been following the story, here’s a little summary taken from the AP…
”The scandal began more than a week ago when a conservative website reported that a photo of a man's crotch had been sent from Weiner's Twitter account to a college student in Seattle.

For days, Weiner claimed that he hadn't sent the photo and that he was the victim of a hacker. But he caused guffaws when he said that he couldn't say with "certitude" that the underwear shot was not a picture of him.”

Today, additional women with additional photos came to light and after a week of denying it, Weiner held a news conference and admitted to a lapse in judgment.

I’ve been a fan of Weiner.  I like his politics (health care reform, pro-choice, compensation for the 9/11 first responders…yes he’s a Democrat).  He’s also relatively young in American politics, which makes for a different take on the normal “rich white guy” policy.

So how disappointing that he is involved in this scandal.  Some people are outraged that his moral compass is skewed, while others are upset he didn’t just come clean last week rather than lying about it.  Agreed, all valid points.  But ya know, I think what is most irritating is that someone, in this day and age of technology and the knowledge of how fast it can break you, would be stupid enough to send anything of a sexual/personal nature to anyone that could potentially be forwarded or hacked or viewed on the internet.  My goodness!  This seemingly smart, up-and-coming liberal hero, has likely ruined his career with photo of his junk.  Why would someone think that anything but a scandal would come out of an action like that?

This seems to be the new “thing” for known personalities (politicians, athletes, etc) to get caught doing over the last several months.  You’d think they’d learn a lesson from the previous scandal.  Clearly, they have not.  That is true stupidity.

So this is reminder to anyone in the public eye and my bloggy friends…Learn from Anthony Weiner’s mistake (and all those before him) - don’t email, text, message, facebook, tweet, fax, or post your goodies.  It never turns out well.

Personally though, beyond the examination of the why's someone would present their junk to the Agora. I'm of the couldn't give a shit variety.
An instance or two. Paris H did it with mind. Lindsey not so much. This fellow, while I like his made-up wordplay. There is a time and place for that level of mental dexterity and when you're been hung out to dry isn't the time.
'Certitude', I don't for one moment hold this to be a real word regardless of what the spell-check says. It sounds like some sort of superpower for an X-man that uses his head to go through mountains. Certainty is the word.

  2. Thanks for warning me. I was just about to post a nudie of myself. You know how I like to share.
You know what pisses me off mostly about people who send naked photos over the Internet? Why don't they send them to me???

  3. I could care less who he shows his stuff to, but as a congressman, he opens himself up to blackmail.

The fact that he was putting blame on named individuals to protect himself bothered me the most.

He really isn't a newcomer to politics, he's been an elected official since 1992, that's 19 years.

I hope his wife leaves him.

  4. @Mark - ha ha, I'm so glad I warned you then, just in time. Actually though, you're not that famous so you probably could. Knowing how you are and all, I bet you get your fair share of pics sent to you. :)

  5. @Grandma J - It be pretty upsetting to have that happen in your marriage wouldn't it? She's in the public eye too, so I wonder if she will be a "good wife" or not.

  9. It seems so basic and yet, it seems to be advice that is too often ignored.

  11. @Mami - I know!

@The Blonde Duck - I just saw a report that said his wife is pregnant too. I can't even imagine getting in this kind of hot water over sex-ting.

@Vince - trash sells though, doesn't it...most "news" programs here are still leading with it. It's getting tiresome really, but then again it's lile a trainwreck -I just can't help myself.

  12. Pumpkin Girl I agree with you completely. It boggles my mind that anyone would post a picture of their 'goodies" on the Internet or even send an e-mail to a friend because they know eventually it will end up EVERYWHERE! I've been asked over the years to send such a photo and my reaction has always been the same: WHY? I'm no prude and I certainly don't mind showing my junk but WHY over the Internet. There is absolutely everything to lose and NOTHING to gain. Such stupidity truly boggles my mind. And Anthony Weiner, I thought I was such a smart guy. I am so disappointed in him.
