I can not believe that we are 6 months into 2011. Where does time go?
Since July has arrived, it’s time to share June’s calendar page for The Kathryn Wheel Calendar Challenge…
Spray paint and stencils were used for the background, and acrylic scraped on paper with a credit card was used for the date squares. I did intend to use a turquoise and red color combo, however I did not intend for the page to look like the 4th of July vomited all over it. Once the pieces were glued down, it was too late so I just went with it.
June was incredibly crazy with the end of the school year and my mom arriving into town. Unfortunately, having time to work on any other pages just didn’t happen. The last three days I’ve been able to play for a few hours. Time in the art room makes me very happy. I’ll have more to share next month.
One thing I did notice today while working was how gunky my journal is getting…
I love how the paint has built up on the spirals. So cool.
love your journal pages and i agree paint build up on the spiral looks very cool x
ReplyDeleteA fun page...lots to see. Definitely feels patriotic, but hey who says you can't feel that way any month of the year.
ReplyDelete"Time in the art room makes me very happy"
ReplyDeleteI love this! When your journal is full, I'd love to look through the whole thing. If it isn't too personal.
@Laura & McMGrad89 - Thanks for stopping by today and your nice comments.
ReplyDelete@Jason - oh, I'd probably let you. :)
So colourful these are lovely x
ReplyDeleteI like it even if it does look "like the 4th of july vomited all over it." I also love journals that look lived in.
ReplyDeleteThis one does seem to be flying right enough. All the same I glad, as the first months were really getting me down.
ReplyDeleteEver tried that masking glue. It can be good at getting tadpoles like a paisley design. You spray first, drop the glue in globs in a region and then pull the glob with a spoon handle making a tail. Allow dry, 'bouts 4/5min. Spray again with another colour. Then when dry pick or roll off the rubberized glue leaving a very sharp professional line. You can really go nuts with this technique adding layer upon layer ad infinitum.
@Steph - Thank you!
ReplyDelete@Nona - Ha! Thanks! The "lived in" look is my favorite part of finishing a journal.
@Vince - Do you have a link to that product? When searching masking glue, only masking tape comes up. I wonder if it's called something else here? I'd love to check it out.
This stuff, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyvinyl_acetate
ReplyDeleteuse a hair dryer to make it go off faster. I thought though this stuff would be surgically attached to any teacher on the day they are handed their baccalaureate.
@Vince - Ha! OK, yes PVA! We have tons of it at school...we just call it glue. :) "Masking" threw me for a loop. I'll have to try that project. Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteI love the red and blue together...I didn't even think 4th of July until you mentioned it.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I went to Brooklyn to the Art House...there I was able to see many more Sketchbooks than when the tour was in SF. I got to meet the people who began it and also their parents who were visiting. The mom was so proud of her son's success...he's only 25! It is so full of artsy Sketchbooks and I feel like a celeb when everyone there found out I actually had a Sketchbook in the library.
Thanks for sharing that info with me...I ordered the one for 2012.
Happy 4th!
hahahahha just read Vince's comment...lots of things became surgically attached when I got my credential...but not glue...still laughing with my whistle, fine tipped marker and disinfectant soap glued to my clapping hands...
ReplyDeleteGunky journals are the best, a proof that you did exactly right inside it! Had fun, that is. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy July!
@marey-oh I'm so excited that you got to visit the Art House. I bet that was so much fun. I'm about 5 pages into my 2012 book. Yes, that was a great comment...I literally laughed out loud. Unfortunately art supplies have been surgically removed to make more room for standardized testing.
ReplyDelete@Hanna-Thank you so much. I'm thrilled that you stopped by.
this is just fabulous!!! Hugs Juls
