I'm Getting Worried

Can we all just take a moment to digest that kids will be starting school in my classroom in 11 days, and this is what that classroom looks like right now...
At the end of last school year (which seems like yesterday btw) the rooms in my wing of the school had to be packed up and stripped down to the bare walls.  Excitingly, some refurbishing of the old rooms was going to take place over the summer.  I've got a lot of stuff so the packing was kind of a pain, but I kept telling myself that it was worth it for a much needed update.
Even though school has been out since June 14, the rooms STILL aren't done.  Typical construction speed.  Typical school project speed.  The two don't combine well at all!  My principal has been standing on her head to get the workers to finish, but time is running out.
With only 6 weekdays (we can't go in on the weekends anymore) left before school starts, panic is setting in.  I need a week to set up the room/prepare for the new year after summer break when I don't have to unpack and reorganize.
Yesterday, my friend Tami asked me, "Are you freaking out?"  Yep!  I'm totally freaking out!!!!

  1. What exactly can you do, or anyone else to solve the issue. I would've thought something like this would've been done in the first weeks of the break to allow whatever fumes to dissipate. Especially for a school.
Anywho's, there's no point freaking out. The only real solution if they are going to do the work is to find you a temporary space otherwise is the Christmas break or next year.

    1. Yah, you'd have thought, but again, the people who make the decisions about the work being done in the schools don't ever take into account that we can't just push back the opening like a business can. The kids come on 12th whether we are ready or not. And it is expected that we (the teachers) will be ready, regardless if the room is actually ready. I keep getting told not to worry about it, but that's easier said than done.
Once the school year starts I NEVER feel like I'm caught up...there's always something to do, so to start the year not ready, well it's a crappy way to start the year. I just hope I can begin to unpack on Monday. If I can get in to do that, I'll feel better. It's the waiting around knowing there's so much to do that's causing the stress.

    2. Yes I get you're all Topsy turvy not knowing what the heck is going on. And I know it's no help at all when someone so fart away is saying, chill, when all you need is a good rant. Some times it's better to have a thing to focus on to vent frustration. It's one of the things I miss not being in a relationship, you know that picking a fight to clear the air. Running or some swift hard physical exercise might do in lieu.

    3. :) Ranting indeed!!! No control over the situation and too much time on my hands to think about it. Not a good mix for me.
It's 103 out right now so looking forward to dark to take the dog out.

  2. Seems like that is something the school district should be freaking out about. You will definitely need some help putting it together.

    1. Yah, their sense of urgency doesn't seem to match mine or my colleagues'. :) I'm not a last minute kind of person, so these last few days of break have NOT been relaxing. I'd have preferred to have gotten it done this week and enjoyed the few days before school started knowing I was done. This waiting around is for the birds!!! :)

  3. I would freak out too. There is a major construction project going on at the elementary school near our house, and I was just thinking today that NO WAY is it going to be done in time for the start of school. I'm sorry it's been stressful for you. I know it will come together, but the waiting and last-minute rush is no fun. :-(

    1. Yah, I keep vacillating between, "It'll be fine" and "OMG how am I going to get it all done!?!?" I was fairly organized when packing as far as I should be able to open a box and put it right back where it came from. That's the hope anyways. Ahhhhh!

  4. That tablet can be a funny pip sometimes, with it's predictive text.

  5. You mean you didn't mean "from fart away"? ;). Isn't it funny how we don't see it until after it's posted. I turned the autocorrect off when I first got the device a couple of years ago, but it saved from silly errors on the touchscreen more times than it made silly errors so I turned it back on.
