Just a Dent

My work husband Jason and I went into school today to begin delving into our classroom mess.  Even though we are warned not to go in on the weekends, we decided to brave it together because we could protect each other if anyone tried to steal us, or at least call 911.

The classroom update is FAR from being finished.  I don't even have whiteboards up yet (Yikes)!  But the cupboard painting is finished, so I could start unpacking.

After 6 hours, most of the boxes have been unpacked and most of the books have been returned to the classroom library.
The floor has been spotted!  So at least a dent has been made.  In fact I stayed a little longer after this photo was taken and unpacked and broke-down those six boxes in the middle of the picture before I left.

Getting started on this room is really all I've thought about this past week, so I'm glad to have gotten a few hours in today.  It's taken the edge off a bit.

    1. Thanks! Yah I'm looking forward to them getting finished. Right now I'm not terribly convinced the work they've done has been worth it, but hopefully when it's done and all put together it won't look quite as shotty - very little attention to detail so far.

  2. Wow! It looks like you put a big dent in the work! I know it's going to be fabulous. Also, as an aside, I would like to have Jason be my work husband. Luckeeeeee!

Thank you. It's coming along. 7 more hours today, and I think tomorrow I can start decorating!

  3. 3rd attempt. I'm trying Firefox, could be Chrome is having a hissyfit for some reason.

    I'm really glad you've gotten a start.

    1. Me too! I'm actually thinking I might be ready in tine to start! :). Fingers crossed anyhow.
Isn't it weird that blogger is a google product (isn't it?) and chrome seems to fight with it. You'd think, if anything, those two programs would work the best together,

    1. Oh after Labor Day would be nice, but I do like the longer breaks through the year, so 6 in one... It would make our going to school two-three months in 100 degree heat a bit note tolerable.

  5. I feel your pain. I can't get into my classroom until August 11 because the floors are being waxed. The 12th is CPR, the 14th & 15th are meetings and school starts on the 19th. I foresee some late nights.

    1. Ugh! The facilities people or those who schedule them never seem to have any sense of urgency. Good luck getting things done in the couple of days you have.
I've never been able to get the room ready and be ready for the first day of school using only the ONE paid work day they give us. I keep threatening to try and whatever gets done is done, but who am I kidding, no one would care that I was taking a stand and only the kids and I would suffer.
Today one of the facilities guys was in the middle of an electrical project in my room and at 2:30 he stopped everything, wires dangling, and left as it was quitting time. Since Sunday I've worked 22 unpaid hours in my classroom, during vacation! I just wish that getting it all done in time didn't matter to me, but it does.

  6. I wasn't really expecting you to post anything much this week since I expected that you'd be insanely busy. But did you get/they get the place fixed up and ready for the next intake.

    1. Thanks for asking. Yes and no. They're still working so a lot of what I've unpacked or put up has been moved or changed so when I return the next day I spend the first hour resetting everything. It's been a frustrating but productive week. Monday we get the class list so I can get name tags and such done. Kids arrive Tuesday whether I'm ready or not. I'll/it'll be mostly ready. And as much as that's stressing me out :) it'll have to do.

  8. Oh, I've been meaning to say you should check out Back Button Focus on the camera.
Google it for your model. It helps, it really helps if you remove the half-press on the shutter button.

Oh I think the commenting issue is due to me going with the default google option and forgetting to scroll down to the WP option.

    1. Hmmm, I had never heard of that before. After reading the article I searched about what it is I wondered why I would want to use that and then found an article explaining why. But I wonder if it's beneficial if I'm not using a tripod? The reasons were given for multiple shots of the same subject or if something moves into the shot...those sound like a tripod is used. Are you using it on yours?

    2. OK, that's the article I skimmed through to find out about it. I'm not sure if I completely understand it. When I'm not so scattered I'll have to try it again. Is is something that would be worthwhile when traveling...you've seen the photos I take when I travel, would that have been useful?

    3. Yes, very much so. Say you are inside a church and want to get the tabernacle wall with all the icons at the top of it. But you also want to get the size as well so you need the entire wall.
What you do is point the lense on the icon, press the BBF and when focused lift your thumb. The you lower the lens horizontal to the altar. Then press the shutter release and as long as you have the icons in frame they will be in focus.
The point is 'you' have to cause the camera to focus. And you have instant control of two types.
Landscapes, there it won't matter so much. It's not really going anyplace is it.

    4. I'll have to play around with it I think to really understand, but I'll try it. When I searched it for my camera the responses made it seem like it's fairly easy to do.

    5. I'm trying to remember the things I discovered in settings that make life more instinctive and suit you better. I'm sorry I went and remembered just at the time you are busiest.

    6. :) yah, the thought of getting the camera out is on the back burner right now. For a couple of weeks anyways until things get going.
