Saturday 9 - Mama's Day

This week's Saturday 9 song link is "Mama" by Lunch Money Lewis in honor of Mother's Day...
1. Gamal Lewis got the nickname "LunchMoney" in 10th grade because of his round cheeks and because lunch was his favorite part of the school day. What do you recall about lunchtime in the school cafeteria?  As an elementary school kid I rarely ate in the cafeteria since I brought lunch to school.  Only those who bought lunch ate in the cafeteria.  The rest of us ate outside.  Once or twice a month they served tacos and my parents would let me buy lunch on those days.  As a teacher, the school cafeteria is probably the noisiest place I've ever been.
2.  His father and uncle were members of the band Inner Circle.  Their song, Bad Boys" was the the theme to the reality show Cops.  What reality show have you soon recently.?  I'm a reality TV show junkie and just can't help it.  Most recently, I caught up on the Projet Runway finale.  Guess that's more competition show than reality tv.  The trashy reality shows are a guilty pleasure.  They are like a train wreck, and I just can't look away.  Interestingly enough, this year's presidential campaigns have seemed a lot like a reality tv show...I'm not a fan of that!
3. In this song, Mr. Lewis sings that his mama taught him how to put on pajamas. What did you wear to bed last night?  Currently in bed writing this in a cami and lounge pants.  Although it's a little chilly tonight, I might need to put on a hoodie.
4. He claims he can't ever lie to his mama because she'll hear it in his voice. Are you a convincing liar?  No, I am a TERRIBLE liar.  I wear my emotions on my sleeve, so what you see is what you get.  If I were lying, it would be very clear.  I have "called" in sick before, but I can do that on the computer and not have to talk to anyone who would figure me out.
5. LunchMoney sings that his mama made him chicken soup when he was sick. Do you eat soup all year around, only during winter months, or just when you're battling a cold?  Soup is good when it's cold, and I don't eat it when it's warm outside.  Which is kind of weird because I eat other hot foods when it's warm out.  I guess soup just seems like cold weather food to me.
6. The lyrics tell us that when her son was hungry, Mama reliably whipped something up. What's the last food you prepared?  I made beef and broccoli and a cajun chicken caesar salad on Sunday night to have for lunch and dinner meals this week.  I usually cook on Sunday night for the week.
7. He also sings that his mama always made sure he had a few dollars in his pocket. Let's talk about you and money. Did you more recently lend or borrow it?  Most recently I've given it away to contractors to fix my house.
8. Mother's Day is for grandmothers, too. Sam grew up calling her grandmother "Grandgran." Did you have a nickname for your grandmother?  Both my grandmas were called grandma.  Both their first names were shortened into nicknames - Grandma Dorothy was Grandma Dot and Grandma Leona was Grandma Lee.
9. To celebrate Mother's Day, Sam is giving away her own mother's favorite candy: Hershey Bars. Would you prefer milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or milk chocolate with almonds?  I wouldn't take any of them, but my mom, who is a chocoholic, would take one of each.
Happy Mother's Day!!!

    1. Oh, yes, they are sooooo bad. I have a couple of girlfriends who, whenever we have plans to meet up, text each other reminders to catch up on RHW so we can talk about it when we meet. I don't tell just anyone that. :)

  2. Oh! I love beef and broccoli. It's so neat what the jus does to the texture of the broccoli. Now I want some for lunch.

    1. I found a recipe for it on Pinterest a few months ago and I've made it several times. It is so easy and really, really good. My luck with cooking Chinese food is limited, but this one works. Plus it's made with flank steak so it's very, very tender. I'll come by and link it for you.

  3. In elementary school I used to go home to eat lunch, we lived only ten houses down from the school.

    1. Isn't that amazing!?!? We're so locked down at school these days, that would never happen here. I wonder if it still does in small towns.

  4. Soup is usually a first sign of Fall food here. I used to love taco day at school, too.

    1. It's still in the 90s when fall comes these days, so it's a winter food here. We get it cool weather for a month or two. I take advantage of that short window for soup though.

  5. I will never forget the (crappy...) bologna sandwiches my mother would pack for me every day in elementary school. I'd do anything for one of those today.

    1. It's kind of nice to have someone take care of ya...even if it's crappy bologna. That was a sandwich I never cared for. I think mine were Buddig ham or turkey.

  6. Contractors can really do a number on your budget. I hope it is worth it!

    1. They sure do. It is, as it's by choice, not required. But even so, it never seems to end.

  7. Projet Runway thank you very much for that, not. Dear lordy I have to go out and cut down a tree or something :-DDDDD

In truth the rest of it is so American I can't reference it at all. And that's quite unusual, there's normally something to grip.

    1. Ha! Imagine if I had told you So You Think You Can Dance?!?! You might need to rebuild your car engine. And if you knew about the Real Housewives...well, you'd probably never talk to me again. Terrible, terrible, mind rotting stuff. :)

    2. Ohh we had that dance thing first and then on flaming ice. Then we had the one in Oz eating Widgery Grubs and balls&willies of various sorts. Then god help us X-factor(pronounced X-fact-tor. Two words).
And we have the poisonous bitches of the various places in the US. It's rare I'd use the C-word. But where do they find so many that are stuck in High School mode.
And now I see they are doing it to poor little kids in another show that has them dancing free style for a coach and moms that are living through them. Poor little dears should be out climbing trees.
But that model thing is just bleh(shivers).

    3. Ahahaha... I love that you refer to them as the "poisonous bitches"! I've caught the tail end of a couple of those (Beverly Hills and Atlanta) while waiting for Top Chef and have to admit it elicited much laughter and shaking of the head. I mean, really??

    4. Oh, Top Chef! Another good one! :)
They are awful. Just goes to show you what too much money, too much time on your hands, and the spotlight can do to a person. But it is entertaining in a train wreck sort of way.

  8. We still ate in the lunch room if we brought our lunch, which I tried to do as often as possible. I remember my favorite lunchbox was red plaid.

The last thing I made was some guacamole this afternoon. I'll eat soup any time of the year. I've never been a chocoholic, but will still eat non-dairy chips or things made with cocoa powder.

My grandmothers were called "Ose" (short for old hussy") and Nonnie. Being the youngest grandchild on both sides (by 15 years on one side and 25 years on the other!), I played no part in the giving of those names. Mine call me MeMe. (I wanted to be Grammy, but that's what it became)

    I'm a terrible liar!!

    1. Ha! "Old Hussy"? How'd she get that nickname...maybe I don't want to know. ;)

    2. I think my uncle, her oldest child, came up with that. I'm not really sure why, but all in fun, of course. I think it was originally Osie, but it often got shortened to Ose.

  9. I am a decent liar..according to the husband I speak with such confidence that one easily believes me even when I have no idea what I am talking about.
I will take almost any and all chocolates.. nothing with raisins and stuff in it. Nuts yes.. peanut butter hell yes.. plain old regular stuff is okay too.
