Chi Town

Chicago is a great city.  Last week I visited for the very first time, and had a great mini trip.  Of course, pretty much the entire nation was suffering from record breaking heat and Chicago was right smack in the middle of that heat wave.  I’m no stranger to hot weather, but my only complaint about it in Chicago is the HUMIDITY. Blech!  But once I succumbed to the fact that I would spend the entire time glistening with my hair piled on top of my head, I was good to go.

So let’s go…
My friends live in the neighborhood of Lincoln Park.  It is just a few blocks from downtown, but has a great neighborhood feel with tree-lined streets of historic houses.
stuff 026  The neighborhood is in walking distance to Lake Michigan which is enormous.

The Biograph (where John Dillinger was shot and killed) resides in Lincoln Park as well.

On my first full day in the city, we attended a Cubs game at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs played the Astros.  It didn’t really concern me who won, but it was fun to be there when the Cub’s won 4-2. I enjoyed seeing the bleacher seats atop buildings that overlooked the stadium.

I took so many pictures so I’ll share more in my next post.

  1. I was there one time! We were visiting a CRAZY ridiculous college called Hyles Anderson. Pumpkin, you need to google that place to see why I am the way I am. Oh my gosh. I can hardly believe I was associated with that craziness in any way. Any way, when we were done the conference at Hyles Anderson we went to Chicago. I remember loving it and hearing about a river they turn green on St. Patricks day. Fun.

  2. @Becky - I have never heard of that school before. Just looked it up, and it's definitely for a certain population - they probably wouldn't have let me in. :) I'm sure St. Pat's is FUN for sure. I'd like to go again in the fall or spring so it's not so darn hot.

  3. Never been to Chicago. I can see the humidity hanging over the city. God, I can just imagine being in that soup.

  6. @3rdnlong - Ugh! We always laugh here when we hear it's 105 but it's a dry heat. Really though, that humidity makes the heat unbearable. Hang in there.

  7. WoW! Looks like a great trip...I am jealous....I've never been to Wrigley. My mom was a BIG Cubs fan. I have been to Chicago but it was years ago...the heat wasn't so bad but the mosquitoes were.
Happy SUnday night! Can't wait to see the rest of your photos :)

  8. If ever I go to the States Chi town is the very last place I will go. My uncle married a Chi woman and he and my first cousins live in and around that city.
The nearest I want to get to that place is the Christmas family photo that I get each year from them like some insane Home Alone 25* still shot.

  10. Oh, the Chicago woman lives about seven miles from me here in Tipperary. As does the NYC woman that married my other uncle. And NYC is the next to last place BTW.

  12. @M - We, luckily didn't have any squeeters. I liked seeing the game at Wrigley. It's pretty small, in comparison to Dodger stadium, so all the seats were quite good, even the cheap ones we were in. :)

  13. @JLo - Loved the neighborhoods. Loved being in the city, but not right in the hustle bustle of it.
Your food recommendations were spot on (as usual :) Pics to come.

@Blonde Duck - Ohhhh, the deep dish. I could only get down half a piece after salad, but then I dreamed about it for the next 2 nights. So delicious. I need to find a recipe to make it at home.

  14. @Vince - wait I'm confused, she lives in Chicago or in Tipperary? :) It's a great city...you could go and just not tell them you are there. I don't get the appeal of NYC, at all. There's a lot to do, but there's something suffocating about it.

  15. She brought up the bas oops cousins here in Tipperary. He remained in Chi'. Then one by one they left Ireland after high school. She is still here while he is in the States. Nuts eh.

You know, I follow a blog called Chi Town Girl and until now, I never realized that it meant Chicago. I'm really "special needs" sometimes. m.

  17. HURRAY!!! Great photos! I can't wait to see part two.

You know those bleachers on the rooftops??? Well, when I lived there there was this big thing to tie beers to a bunch of ballons and try to get it over the wall to people inside the stadium.

PS - Although you have not put the photo up here yet, I am still dreaming and craving a deep dish pizza since I saw it!!!

  18. @Hula - Ha! That's great. My friends were telling me the stadium isn't super happy with "those" seats. I think it's it's so clever.
Yes! I, too, have been dreaming about it. Let's meet up for the weekend and get some! :)
