So Maybe Green Wasn’t Such a Good Idea After All

Every few weeks I go to the nail salon to get my nails done.  Earlier this year I was turned on to gel nail polish.  Dealing with paper and washing my hands as much as I do in my job, regular nail polish lasted about 5 minutes before getting a chip or wearing off.  With the gel polish, I can go 2-3 weeks before the color shows wear.  It is a miracle really!

This weekend, I went in for my regular appointment.  I like the sparkly polish and usually go for a glittery pink or brown.  Sometimes I get really adventurous and have my nails done in super glittery purple or dark blue.

Tracy, who does my nails, always tries to get me to venture out – hence the purple and blue – with the colors I choose.  That is how this happened…

stuff 033 Yah, that’s right, I paid money to have my nails painted green.  Over the last few days, I’m getting a bit more used to it, and there have actually been times when I like it.  The 7 year old girls in my class “LOVVVVVEEEE” them.  On the other hand, every so often the green catches my eye, and for a fleeting second it looks like I have gangrene of the fingernails.

Oh the price we girls have to pay for fashion!

  2. Sorry mo stor, I couldn't give a shit. Just as long as you don't put green colouring crap in your drink for Patrick's Day. We'd judge you for that right enough. And severely. Even I who doesn't drink could never get beyond that.
    Otherwise your good to go.

Happy Birthday btw. I forgot to mention the last day.

  3. hahaaa... hummm well it's topical !
A change is as good as a rest as they say. ;-)
What a lovely job they have done though and the gel polish really is great right? So robust.

  4. Those look so cute! They'll be perfect for St. Patty's day or you could mix them with red for Christmas!

  5. The green is interesting. I like the sparkles. I am not a fan of odd colors for myself.

  7. @Meyser - Thanks, ya good for Halloween maybe.

@Vince - Hmmm, well I have probably consumed green beer before, but never made it myself. :) The male perspective is always so refreshing. We girls worry so much about what boys think about our fashion choices, and they don't really care all that much do they? Thanks for the bday wishes!

@JennieLouise - yes, I love this gel stuff. It still looks like new, and it's been just about a week.

  8. @Blonde Duck - That's the thing, the color doesn't look so great with most of the colors I wear. Black seems to be fine, but anything else. Blah!

    @Banker Chick - I LOVE the sparkles!

@M - one of my 2nd graders spent the entire reading group on Monday holding my hand and touching my nails. She was fascinated! She also spends most of her day doing her hair, so she's into fashion like that. :)

  9. Well when guy sees a girl, her fashion choices are the very last thing on his mind. So no, not really.
I've had some education in design, so I've a bit more of an eye than the average fella. I could probably have a stab at the question 'does my arse look big in this'. Meah, but me heart wouldn't be in it.

  11. Actually my first thought was celebrating Halloween.

  12. According to Liza Minnelli's character, Sally Bowles, in Cabaret, green nail polish is "divine decadence"

However according Chloe Webb's character, Mona Ramsey, in Tales of the City "green nail polish in the day time is not 'divine decadence' it's just plain tacky."

My views are not necessarily either of the above, but it is October, you can always just pass it off as being Halloween festive.

  13. @3rdnlong - sadly, that wasn't the intent. But I'll make that work!

@Hula - so what you're saying is that I'm somewhere between divine and tacky. I'll take it! :)

  14. I did the gel nails this summer and I didn't like them. I still have the remnants on my nails two months later. Cool green, though!
