A Bit Out of Sorts

I’ve been contemplating a post about what’s been going on at work, but I have to be very careful how it’s composed.  Work and all it’s shenanigans have been on my mind a lot (especially now that spring break is over), and I’d like to get my thoughts down and somewhat organized.  At the same time, with the amount of drama that has gone on, it seems daunting.

So instead, I’m going to just complain about some other goings on in kind of a random thoughts posts, but please let it be known that this is just biding time until I can write what I really want to post about…

Just last Friday it rained cats and dogs all day long.  We had lightning and thunder – thunder that shook the house and made me think we were having an earthquake.  Rigby tried to climb into the walls she was so scared.  The temps also fell quite a bit with the storm that by Saturday morning we had snow on the surrounding mountains.  Other than the puppy being frightened, I enjoyed every minute of it.  Today?  Well, it was 90+ outside.  Ugh!  A winter storm was so welcome since our winter was basically non-existent.  The 90 degree heat makes me want to complain, especially since it’s only April.

For the last couple of years, the noisiest car in the whole world my car’s brakes squeal loudly when the car slows or stops.  I take the car in about once a year to have them checked out. Every time, the mechanic tells me that there is plenty of brake left; they’re just noisy.  I like that they are honest with me and not charging me for new ones, but it’s hard to know when I actually will need new breaks.  They’ve been noisier than normal this month, so I took the car in to have it checked out, again.  Good news!  The brakes are still in good shape – minus the high pitched sound they make when I stop!  However, my alternator was not as lucky.  I left the shop this afternoon with a new alternator that cost $690.05!!!  So any plans on eating this month have been changed. Unexpected expenses like put me into a bit of a panic as the budget needs to be cut somewhere else.  On the bright side, that’s 690 more mileage points towards a business class flight to Europe – one of these days!

After picking up my car, I had to stop off at the eye doctor and pick up my new glasses, hopefully for the last time.  Since Friday, April 6, I have been to the eye doctor a total of 9 times.  On April 6 alone I went three times.  My exam got started over an hour late so I had to leave in the middle of it for another appointment, only to return to finish the eye appointment about an hour later.  After choosing my new glasses, I went back again that night to pick them up.  Since then, I’ve had to return because the glasses didn’t fit right, because they had the prescription in the wrong spot, and finally because they put the wrong prescription in the glasses.  Tonight, I can finally see out of them without squinting or getting a headache.  What a relief!

To end on a non-complaining note, tomorrow I will be attending an awards’ celebration to honor a fellow work colleague and friend who will be receiving an award.  How nice to participate in a presentation that honors teachers’ hard work rather than put it down.  It will be a refreshing change!  (I know, there was a little bit of complaining there too.)

Happy Wednesday!  Only two more days until the weekend!

  1. Find someone that will hear you but isn't involved in any way. You need to listen to yourself. That way you can strip back to the kernel.
Just remember right or wrong what you think is yours to live with, so as Eli Wallach said 'be the Star in your own life'. Anywhos, a big hug from this quarter.

    1. Thanks Vince that's very good advice. In the midst of it all sometimes it's hard to remember.

    1. @becky - I know! Car repairs bite, but since the car is paid for its still cheaper than a car payment for now.
I'm thrilled about the honor as well! Even though she was told by admin that it was ironic she got it - oh that's another complaint! :)

  4. I thought that with brakes, the squeaking noise was OK, it is the grinding noise that was bad.

Can we go for forgotten complaint #3??? Do I hear a #3 anywhere?

How about slow drivers in the fast lane??? #3???

  6. @hula - what do you mean no #3? I counted upwards of 5 complaints in this post (work, the heat, my car, my 9 eye doctor visits, and work again). :) But slow drivers is DEFINITELY on my complaining list.

  7. @Marey - Ya, I've actually thought about you with all this going on. I don't wish to get myself in any hot water by posting too much. Since it's my blog, I feel like I want to share what my plans are for next year and why. If I can't do it professionally, then I won't do it.
I think that we will get another cold front or two before the heat stays for good, but going from 50 to 90+ in a matter of days was quite abrubt.

    1. @hula - oh yes! I'm sure there's a #3 there somewhere. Heck! Knowing me there's probably a #10 as well. ;)

  9. I hate those unexpected car surprises. I wonder were the glasses from LC. I have had problems with eye glasses from there. Plus they are usually more expensive in the longrun, than those I have to wait for at my current optometrist. Hang in there we need teachers like you in CA.

  10. @bc - it was lc! I've never had issues before, but this time was crazy. They were very nice about all of it and replaced everything at no cost to me. Thank you!
