And On to June

I’m not quite sure where May went.  I missed the end of the month by a few days.  Here's my calendar page for May’s Calendar Challenge.  This month, I just didn’t have the patience to cut out those little date squares and get them straight on the page.  So I changed it up a bit.
stuff 211 I think this is the way I will do my calendar from now on.  I loved being able to draw or doodle something for a day rather than write about it.  Some days are just too boring to warrant a blurb.  Besides, the doodles are much more fun.

I’ve kind of gotten past the dark, “I’m totally sad, and mad, and irritated” journaling this month.  I’m getting near some closure with the whole work debacle.  I just couldn’t dwell on it anymore.  Which has been good.  So I’ve been doodling a lot lately and enjoying it thoroughly. stuff 212 stuff 218 stuff 219 stuff 222

And made some more new cards for the stash.

And on another art note…
A week or so ago, the Sketchbook Project came to Los Angeles.  I sent my sketchbook to Brooklyn in January to join the rest of the 2012 sketchbooks.  After all that work it was tough sending it in to be housed somewhere else.  I looked forward to visiting the project when it arrived in town.  Stef joined me on an outing into the Echo Park area of Los Angeles.

The Arthouse Co-op (organizer of the project) brought all the 2012 books to the iam8bit gallery located on Sunset Blvd.  We spent a couple hours viewing some of the sketchbooks for the yearstuff 197stuff 184

Throughout that day I had been getting emails from the project notifying me that my book had been checked out by various people.  When I tried to locate it, we had to wait for a little while for it to be turned back in and reshelved.

stuff 194Even though I already had saved it in photos, it was fun to see it in person again and take a couple shots of it on its US tour.  Already signed up again this year.

Happy June!

  1. Loving your calendar and your idea for doodling the days, it's better than writing the same thing again and again. x

  2. You know, I didn't realize that this is what you were doing with your scrapbook. After all that hard work, it must feel like you were it's Foster Mother.
Okay, I admit, I have no idea what it feels like to be a Foster Mother.

    1. @mark - it IS like that. It took every ounce of courage I had to simply send it in so thinking about not getting to keep the book was not a concern at the time. Once it was gone though I missed it. :). I even contemplated stuffing it in my bag last week, but decided against it.

    1. @anita and lou - exactly, on many days it's work and sleep, that's it. There were only so many days to represent that. :)

    1. @Lynette - it was fun to see it. It was even more fun to see others check theirs out and show it off. It could have stayed for hours looking through all of them.

  7. Overall I'd say you were channeling the 1960's with this artwork.
I, for the life of me I cannot think of what those plastic interlocking rings are called.
I was watching a thing on the BBC the other day when these daily diaries came to mind. Books for dolls houses. Teeny tiny printed books. I was impressed.

    1. @vince - those spiral toys were great. I've got a set in my classroom somewhere. I haven't thought about it in ages.
