This weeks Saturday 9…
1) Do noisy storms scare you? Yes, but in a good way. We don’t have them too often, but I love listening to them as long as I’m home and under the covers.
2) Whom do you consider one of today's most beautiful women? Well duh, ME! Just kidding. I have no idea; it’s such a subjective question.
3) What should you be doing, instead of answering these questions? Since it’s late, sleeping I guess.
4) What's the most recent addition to your spam folder? Awhile back I spent some time going through all my emails and stopping subscriptions, blocking junk, etc. Since, I’ve had very few junk emails in my box. I might get one or two unsolicited emails, and most of those are from “no sender”. So I’m not really sure what they are for. Delete!
5) What was the last thing you cooked? Most of the time it’s just me, so I cook a couple of things at the beginning of the week and then eat them for lunch and dinner the rest of the week. Tuesday, I made chicken/lemon skewers on the grill and a Greek salad and had it Wednesday and Thursday.
6) Do you remember the lyrics to either your high school or college fight song? If so, please share a bit. No, we were (and they still are) the politically incorrect Indians. There might have been a song, but what I do remember is we’d wave our fingers or hand in the air in a pretend tomahawk and chant some Native American-sounding song.
7) What's the derivation of your first name? I actually wrote a post a couple of years ago about this very question. In fact, my name doesn’t really have one that I can find. If someone knows differently I’d love to hear it.
8) Are you following the NBA or NHL this year? If so, which team are you rooting for? I am a Kings hockey fan, however this year’s strike rubbed me the wrong way. It’s funny how these million-dollar players can be part of a union, ask for more money/rights, and strike and no one seems to care. The games are selling out – business as usual. Teachers do it, and we are the single-handedly bringing down the US economy.
Anyhow, the Stanley Cup winners of 2012 are 0-3 in the first three games of the shortened season. So I’m begrudgingly a fan right now.
9) Gloves, umbrellas, sunglasses, keys -- which of these do you misplace most often? Since I’m not in need of gloves too often, they are what I misplace most. I don’t have a regular spot for them so I just put them here or there and then can’t remember where they are when I need them.
Since the Connecticut school shootings, I’ve irrationally decided keeping my classroom doors locked makes me feel more secure. A few times now, I’ve been caught outside the locked door with students but without my keys. I always know where they are, I just don’t always have them with me.
And just for fun…
Takes them a bit to get going, but they’re in their prime starting at about 2:00. Made my Friday.
Enjoy your Saturday!
Google says your name is: From the wood of the royal forest. From the royal fortress meadow. The little boys are adorable.
ReplyDeleteYa that's what I'd found but also 2-3 other things too. It doesn't seem to be a name with a lot of background or history, especially for how common it was in the 70s.
DeleteHow the holy did they get from Sean to Kimberley. Mind you neither of my families are awash with Vincent's.
ReplyDeleteAnd looks are the very definition of objective, ask the feminist movement. :-)
As a cheer this one from Alabama isn't bad and it would help if they could do it in unison http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC0P1m43OX0
But I think this one from Munster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nu717a0ldgw and when Ireland plays England at anything is useful.
On the names? Exactly! I don't know if it was because both parents were teachers and when you're a teacher pretty much every name is ruined because you've had one or more in your class who have ruined it. Maybe their two choices were just least offensive. :)
DeleteThe song is pretty and his voice is so good. It's interesting that a ballad would be played/sang at a sporting event. Here it's the hardest/fastest/loudest/in your face songs. I do understand there's history behind it especially with certain opponents. Which I guess is in-your-face in its own right.
Oh I don't know. I suspect kids come with a name. And I doubt any kid is a total horror. Tthere will always be something to redeem. Ex's now, that's a different matter.
DeleteHa ha, yep!
DeleteThe dancing twins are so cute! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteHockey...baseball...basketball, etc- you're right when they strike or get locked out it is no big deal- and some make more in one game than teacher's/peons in the real world make in a year. And it is all in the name of, "they have a short lived career due to injuries and age." Really? I have been stabbed in the back with scissors by a student who obviously did not belong in a public school classroom, have a worn out back from stooping over desks for 28 years and have been infected from old in a prior classroom culminating in sinus surgery...and I still cannot retire because I am not old enough to collect my retirement. I do enjoy my job but with increased class size, mainstreaming students into the regular classroom and all the increased demands there is a point when it would be nice to retire...like government workers after 20 years with all the perks. We have such a skewed system.
Rant over- Spam? I get spam to enlarge my penis...if I had one LOL! And for names...yes, as a teacher it is very difficult to name children and pets!
Enjoy your weekend!!
Oh my, stabbed? Not been stabbed yet, but yes, exactly. Not to mention my mental stability has taken a nosedive since I've been teaching.
DeletePriorities are certainly skewed.
One of my resolutions this year was to unsubscribe to newsletters and various things I no longer read to cut down on the amount of email I delete anyhow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the twins video, how adorable!
Oh ya, those "subscriptions" are almost worse than spam. I save them forever with good intentions and eventually delete them too.
DeleteI also have issue with this "subscription" mails because I don't remember signing up for them. When I was still single and live alone, I also cook food to last me several days. Saves me a lot of time in cooking and doing the dishes for the week.
ReplyDeleteSaves a lot of time...by Thursday I'm sick of it though. :)
DeleteI cook for my whole family... and then I cook something different from me (trying to eat clean and healthy).... it's quite annoying!
ReplyDeleteOh, ya, that is and a lot of work!
DeleteI am impressed about your mad cooking skills : ). I told Kaishon and Gary that their goal for today is to make me a list of what meals they want this week for supper. I am such a total slacker lately in that department. Just about every night we have either chicken or fish, brocilee and Uncle Ben's rice. I feel bad that I am such a boring cook. I am committed to doing better this week : ).
ReplyDeleteHope your week is awesome.
Chicken and broccoli are a large part of my repertoire. I'm more motivated cooking for others than I am for myself. Some days pb&j are all I come up with until I get in the cooking groove again.
DeleteHope Gary and Kaish come up with a good menu!
The only time a storm scares me is when the time between the flash and bang of a thunderstorm is instantaneous.
ReplyDeleteThose are loud! We had one like that last summer (so odd for us) and the house shook! I thought the dog was going to have a nervous breakdown.
