Hmm, Facebook?

So, I was on the phone with my friend Jill (who used to live just a couple of miles away, but moved to Rochester, NY a few years ago, yes still bitter, but that's another post)this afternoon. She has been hounding me to sign up for Facebook for the last couple of months. A couple of other long distance friends have told me to do the same, but I just haven't been into it. During our call she reminded me again. "OK, OK, I'm doing it right now," I told her as I found the website and signed up. She's thrilled, as I've had three messages from her since I signed up about 3 hours ago.

However, I am still skeptical. I've received emails from people who I didn't even know were on it and that's stressing me out a little - how did they know?. There are tons of people from high school who I've lost touch with over the years who are on it and that's stressing me out too. Why is that? Do any of my 5 faithful readers do Facebook? Why do you do it? Does it stress you out too?

  1. I am OBSESSED with FaceBook. I initially did it this Summer because a friend had gotten married and told me "my pictures are on FaceBook - you can view them there". Well, let me tell you, it is sooo much fun. I have re-connected with SO many old friends. It is NOT stressful at all... it is fun (and funny!)
    You'll have a blast, seriously!

  2. Yep, I'm on facebook. It's a black hole of time sucking! It's not stressful at all. It's so much fun to find old friends. I go in spurts. Today someone found me which sent me searching and finding about 5 other friends.
    Try it, you'll like it!

  3. People have bugged me too, and I may have signed up just so I could view theirs and sign their walls, but I don't have a desire to persue it.

  4. It stresses me out that people from high school can find me. There is a reason why I was lost.

HOWEVER, now you can join me in Mafia Wars!!!

  5. I love facebook. If you take off your high school info they won't find you as easily. Also go into your settings and make your primary email a gmail account you don't use so that spam can go there instead of your regular inbox. When you are in your settings look at the setting regarding your profile changes and who can see what and what items are "published." Mine are all set to "Only Friends," and most of my "stuff" can't be published. Those are my suggestions....

  6. Good ideas, thanks Claire! I don't mind being contacted by high school friends, so I don't really know what the problem is. It's probably the fact that I could spend hours on that as well and I just don't have the time. :)

  7. Pumpkin,
My first boyfriend (from when I was 15) tracked me down via FB. He is now doing contract work in Africa. Also, the guy I "secretly pined for" all through high school is a FB friend... turns out he was gay all along (who knew?!) - but we have re-connected via FB. It really is fun. The ONLY downside I have found is that I'll be on there and all of a sudden I'll realize that 3 hours has passed... it really can suck up your free time if you're not careful, but it's a lot of fun.

Give it a shot - if you don't like it, you can always remove your profile.

  8. Ha ha ha I think this post is funny! Like everything in life it's what you make of it. You can make it very private and you don't have to accept all of the friend requests. That's all I'm saying.

  9. I LOVE Facebook. It is pretty addicting. It's great to post and see pictures and there is an instant messenger to talk to your friends that are online when you are. I've found people from middle school and found random connections between completely separate groups of friends because it tells you who your mutual friends are with people.

The other day I actually found Marey (do you read her blog?), Grandma J's friend on there because her e-mail was in my gmail account and it showed me all my friends from my email address book.

It's great do it. You'll love it.

My dad actually signed up this weekend. If he can do it, anyone can! Grandma J- get in the action too!

  10. Yes, I have been resisting the promptings of others as well, Jill, in particular. But I know that I will probably really like it. Too much. And then my relationship will be over, because I spend entirely too much time with blogging as it is.

And I will continue to resist. . .

OH MY GOSH I can not wait for a new friend : )

So, I do get people that want to be my friend and I have NO idea who they are. I always say yes : ). Why not! I just hope they aren't some crazy stalker person...

  14. Oh, one more thing...tonight I was looking at all my friends blogs and I was like, I know I am forgetting someone. It kept nagging at me and nagging at me and finally after I tucked Kaishon in bed and was getting ready to take a shower I screamed out "Pumpkin Delight" Gary was scared : ). He says my blog life is scary!
