August is Over

It is hard to believe that September is here, and school’s been back in session for three weeks already.  As with every year, I hit the ground running and haven’t even been able to break into a jog yet.  The only art I’ve created in my journal this month was before I went back to work.  It kind of bums me out because I feel better mentally when I have that time, but things will hopefully settle a bit soon.

stuff 233 Here’s this month’s calendar for The Kathryn Wheel’s Calendar Challenge.  Don’t look too closely at the pages, or maybe do for a laugh, because while completing the final week I literally dozed off a few times while writing. What I wrote for the dates makes NO sense at all.  Ha ha!  Oh well.  I may be getting a little tired of this layout.  I like that I have room to sketch or doodle in each square, but they are starting to look the same as past months.  I may have to change it up a bit next time.

I was inspired by journal artist Pam Garrison this month.  She uses her doodles as part of her journaling and really bright colors.  Rather than doing doodles in a different book, it was fun to incorporate them in the journal pages.

I’m not a big fan of these months flying by, but I am ready for fall to take over for summer as soon as possible.  Happy September!

  1. We got a nice rain as an afterthought from Hurricane Isaac. One thing nice is that Sept is here and Fall comes earlier here than in CA. School has started here and Gwennie and Totem are thrilled to bark at the school busses. We are on our way back to CA for 2 weeks next weekend. The puppies get to come this time.

    1. Yah, we've still got at least two months of hot summer left here. But, at least fall is closer than it was last month. :)

    1. Thank you. I had fun making the peacock, but I feel like I might still need to work on it a bit.

    1. Thanks Valerie. Ha ha, that is good advice I only wish I could follow. :) We've got a three day weekend due to Labor Day on Monday, and I managed to get everything done for school so I'm ready for next week. I plan on spending some time in my journal for at least some of the time off.

    1. Thanks. Some days edge of sun, some days smack in the middle of it. On most of these I mixed the paints with white gesso to get more opaque coverage - made for some new colors for me.

  11. I never seem to have enough space for anything as cute and clever as your art. I loved the school day. It is NEVER hot in our schools. The school board won a sales tax increase of one cent/dollar which is paid directly to the school system. It is for our district only and is for upgrades like ACs in all the schools. I hate to say it, because you are a teacher, but I thought it was a waste of money. Many of our schools are so old and one is on the National Historic Register. It had to have all new windows with historical accuracy before they could even put in the AC. The AC runs about three weeks a year, but cost over a million dollars for all the schools. I think we could have spent the money on school supplies or teacher's salaries, rather than a new gym, ACs for all schools, and repair of a pool. But they made sure it was for renovating all the schools ONLY. Just my take on it.

I was reading some of your other blog posts and saw the one on Voter Fraud. Although I am a Libertarian, I have to agree with you on the insanity of that ruling. It has been a LAW in Kansas for two years and NO ONE, not even my Democrat friends, seem to find fault with it. They think if you have nothing to hide, why not show your license. I say they are missing the point! So I have stopped voting. We have no Libertarians in the Kansas primaries, so it's a moot point anyway. But it was an insightful read from someone who shares my beliefs.

    1. My current journal is quite large, 9x11ish I think, which gives me more room. I always run into the space issues in my smaller journals.
I can see your point on the ac,especially with only a few weeks of hot weather, but then again being a teacher inside a warm classroom with 20-30 sweating kids can be unbearable and VERY counterproductive. We've basically got 3 months of 100+ weather once back to school, so without ac I'd probably die. :)
Ya, I agree that "if you've got nothing to hide..." isn't the point either. The motive that seems to be behind it bothers me the most.

  12. Lovely and your doodling and bright colours are fabulous. I love law & order and csi. Not seen the west wing, but like you there is more saved to watch than I have time to view. Happy crafting xx
