Saturday 9

Happy Saturday!

1. When was the last time that you asked for your money back?  I don’t usually ask for my money back.  I will return things that don’t work out with the required receipt, but never for bad service or consumable items like food.  Sometimes I’ve thought about it in my head, but I’m usually too chicken to do anything about it.  When I worked as a server and bartender, customers would eat or drink their entire order and then complain that it wasn’t very good.  I’d think, “Well, why’d you eat it all then!?!”

2. What was the last thing that you did to help someone?  I help little people ALL DAY LONG, so that’s probably not a fair question.  I worked with a colleague yesterday afternoon helping her understand a phonics program that we are implementing. But that probably doesn’t count either.

3. At what point in your life do you think you started to understand who you are?  I don’t know when it was exactly, but being pretty self aware has been one of my strong suits for quite some time.  I know the strengths and weaknesses of my personality and my triggers and what makes me tick…do I always take appropriate steps because of that awareness?  No way, but knowing is half the battle I guess.

4. Are there times when you thought you had taken a fall, only to discover more about yourself?  Oh, sure.

5. What was the last thing you did where you could not believe in what you were doing? When philosophies changed over the last 1.5 – 2 years at my previous school, I had a hard time standing behind those changes.

6. Do you think that you must struggle to become strong?  Depending on how you handle struggles, they can make you stronger, but I don’t necessarily think that in order to have strength there must be a struggle.

7. Do you feel that your dreams have meaning or are entirely random?  I don’t have dreams too often, or at least I don’t remember them very often.  When I do, they are just silly so I hope they don’t mean anything.

8. What was the last promise you broke?  I try very hard to keep promises…nothing is coming to mind in the recent past.

9. Do you collect anything?  Not in the true sense of a collection.  I have many many shoes, art supplies, and books.  But that probably stems more from hoarding tendencies than collecting.

What about you?

  1. I don't ask for my money back for consumables either....but I will send my food back if it is cold...and supposed to be warm. And for helping people....little people all day long...but then again that's what we get paid for! In the grocery store I am always asked to reach itmes on the top shelf...but I try to be helpful whenver I can.

    Happy Weekend!!

    1. Yah, not sure if the helping for $$ really counts. I try to be helpful outside of my job too. Thank you for being a tall shelf helper...I'm always a tall shelf helpee. :)

  2. After buying organic eggs that I thought were too small. I rang Tesco and complained about them AND they sent me my money back for a dozen eggs. But in my defense they really were tiny, we're talking organic sparrows not hens.
So yes, I'm very quick on the draw with the Consumers Acts.
As to the hoarding tendency. I find things have stages where they move to the bin.

    1. Eventually the "collections" make it to the trash, but usually it's only because I've added more. :)
Ya know I think it's a good thing to stand up for yourself as a consumer, and there are times I wish I would have done so. But I often see people who rag and complain about every little thing and who are very disrespectful to whoever they are dealing with. I hate being in line behind someone like that...it stresses me out!

  3. i think i have hoarding tendencies, too, though i always try not to let it get too bad. Right now i think my scrapbooking supply room (it's grown from a drawer to a dresser to a room) is probably on the verge of being qualifiable as hoarding!

    Happy Saturday.

    1. Tell me about it. I'm thinking about redoing my floors upstairs as my next project, but the mere thought of having to clean out the art room is causing me to put it off.

  4. I have a problem not with hoarding, but in throwing things out. If something says "please keep for your records" I keep it. When my hot water heater broke after 12 years, they said I needed the recipe in order for it to be covered under the warranty. So I dug it out of my records.

    1. Good for you! I keep things like that in piles for awhile and then get tired of the piles and toss them. Usually as soon as I finally toss the piles something is needed. Then I tell myself, "see that's why you need to keep the piles.". :)

  5. I tend to think of shoes as an investment rather than hording. Same with handbags.

Have a great rest of your Saturday

  6. I tend to think that helping out a teaching colleague is volunteering. Some of us do it alot, others not so much. Your help multiplies to the children in the current class and coming classes. Perhaps the colleague will also one day remember your kindness and pay it forward.
Great questions today...you got me thinking:)

    1. I agree. Collaborating and helping each other out makes everyone better, and the kids benefit. :)

  8. I don't ask for my money back. I worked at a restaraunt too and was amazed at how people complained once there plate was empty. I went to a restaraunt ordered some fried chicken and barely touched it because it was awful. The waitress asked me if it was okay and I said, "It just wasn't what I was expecting." She took it off my bill without my asking or without telling me that she was going to and I was really impressed.

  9. I agree. Even though it may not be the norm, that's how it should have been handled...both parties being considerate.
