Saturday 9

Today is the first day of my three-week spring break.  I can’t believe I’m up already!  This week’s Saturday 9 is challenging?  We’ll see how it goes!

1. When was the last time that you went out dancing?  Some friends and I went dancing after dinner and a concert in September.  I love it!  I’d go every weekend if I could, but since I don’t I just dance around the house.

2. Have you ever had an argument with a teacher?
Not really, I’ve always been a rule follower and just did what I was told in school.  Once, when I was a sophomore in high school, my chemistry teacher sent me to get an absent excusal (because I missed school to go to a funeral) from the office and then accused me of ditching class.  I was mortified.  He even called my dad!  However, I stood my ground and, with my friends behind me, convinced him that he was wrong.

3. Do you have a tough time remembering people’s names? No, I’m pretty good with names.
I have this friend who, while in college, had some very wealthy friends.  Every time I would go visit him at school one of them would always introduce himself to me and tell me it was nice to meet me.  Every single time!  After awhile I would look at him funny and say, “I know, I’ve met you like 20 times already dude.”  Maybe he had problem with his memory, but it always made me feel like he didn’t think I was worth remembering.

4. Would you rather change your past or know your future? I could probably make an argument for both and for neither.  The way it is is fine with me.

5. What’s one thing you feel you must do in your life before it ends?  Live in another country.

6. How many credit cards do you have right now that have a zero balance?  I only have one credit card.  It’s a mileage card that I use for everything.  It always has a balance on it because I always use it, but I pay the bill, in full, every month.  One of these days I’m flying to Europe in business class.

7. What is the most expensive thing you purchased this year?   I’d have to say my shutters.

8 . If you're married, this probably doesn't apply to you, but: Are you mindful about getting tested for STDs/HIV at least semi-regularly? Why/why not? Married people: Were you mindful about this type of thing when you were single? Why/why not?  Sure, but let’s just say I’m also mindful of taking measures to not catch them in the first place.

9. If you could ask the president of the United States one question, what would it be?  WHY?  (while gesturing with my hands wildly) Oh, and just to be clear, it would be a Democrat’s “why”, not a Republican’s.

  1. First of all, I completely LOVE your font! It was a wonderful choice, really brings your answers to life. Your answer about school made me smile, your answer about your friend's friend made me feel bad for you, and I know EXACTLY what you mean about what you'd ask the POTUS.

  2. @The Gal Herself - Thanks! I was going to reply, "Oh no reason to feel bad for me, it was a long time ago." But clearly, it must still annoy me if I still remember it and am writing about it! Ha!

  5. I know these nudges are good in keeping the nose to the blogging grindstone. And are useful for the blank page/screen syndrome. But I cannot get it out of my head that the questions are either very loaded in that way of 'have you stopped beating the crap out of your partner', or they are so innocuous as to be insipid.

  6. I love your presidential question. Where would you like to live, for a foreign country?

  7. That is a good question for Obama. I put more travel on #5 but I would really love to go to the UK and live for about a year.

  8. @vince - its definitely the lazy-man's posting isn't it. No ill intent from me though, just fun! Btw...I'm making "your" tarragon/brown butter steak tonight for some people I'm having over for dinner. Yum!

    @kwizgiver - anywhere...everywhere!

    @BC - that sounds wonderful!

  9. That was fun and I discovered some commonalities. I love to dance and I tend to be a rule follower as well. Your shutters were such a worthy expense, now you can go downstairs scantily clad if you like.

  10. You could heat it, the butter, gently to melt it, then pass it through a muslin or a paper napkin to remove the solids. You get a kind of gee. It's less likely to overburn that way. You need to burn it a bit to get the nutty flavour.
And I don't really mind the 'prompt'. I just worry that it would lead into places that you mightn't go normally if ever.

  11. @unknown mami - ha ha! I know right!?! Between that and the dancing...thank goodness the windows are now covered! :-)

@vince - good idea! I like brown butter, but I've never tried the above before. We'll see where the prep takes us...

  12. 3 GLORIOUS WEEKS!! ENJOY!! I have one week coming up...and it better stop raining!

Dance like nobody's watching :) That was the title of a workshop I took for elementary dance...I try to think that when I dance since I am not the best dancer.

  14. @Marey - yes, 3, very much needed, weeks. I was cold all day today, and I think we are getting some of that rain tomorrow...oh wait, it's already tomorrow, so today I guess. :)

@Vince - Damn the time change (shakes fist)
It was delish! I went with the brown butter, just one less step. Tarragon has a nice flavor that I've cooked with chicken a lot, but never beef. It was good and very rich...not for everyday but lovely for company. Roasted yukons and asparagus were also included.

  15. Yukons. I hadn't a clue. Imagine my glee at seeing roast spud halves.

And yeah it's not for everyday. But you could do that Ghee stuff. Ha-ha, last time I left out the 'h'. Toooooootally different meaning in Gaelic. Anywhos, you could flavour the clarified butter with the tarragon then you'd not need so much.
I wouldn't put it with Rosemary though, but that might be me.

But delighted you had a good meal.

  16. @vince - yes, creamy potatoes, which added to the richness.
Curiousity had me searching for gee in Gaelic and stumbled on this article...

    A fun read!

    1. Look at that...a reply button. I've never noticed that on blogger before.
The article said the pronunciation of god or "dia" is close to "gee", but with your question I'm thinking that's not correct. I haven't found anything on the WORD "gee". I'm thinking it must be juicy...so I must know! ;)

  18. Well, Dia or GOD can be used in certain contexts. In fact these days, it's probably the only time god is evoked in most households.
But nope, it's a word for vagina, kinda.
Like with most things translated it isn't quite full. Today they use it much like the C-word. But that's not it either.
It's earthy and practical, think an adults playground.

    1. Oh ya, that is a bit different than clarified butter, isn't it? :). I'm always learning something from you, Vince! That first paragraph made me laugh.
